I've now uploaded an updated version of this lecture with a lot more information as well as a Q&A at the end. please go check that out.
• Evolution of Tricerato...
In this video, I attempt to paint the best picture of how the Triceratops came to be and how it lived. I am joined with my brother David, and hope to have more educational videos soon.

Triceratops lived in herds like others. A relatively recent discovery by a team of the Dutch museum Naturalis found a herd of 5 Triceratops skeletons together.

If Aztecs and triceratops lived in the same time they definitely would have used their teeth in weaponry 😐🤟

Fantastic, detailed exploration into one of the weirdest of families within Dinosauria. Best Ceratopsian discussion I have seen so far. Cannot wait for the Tyrannosaurs one. Might I suggest you kindly consider lectures on Thyreophora, Carnosauria and Megalosauroidea?

I will add those to the suggestion list, and thanks! The Tyrannosaurs video is well on it's way. It's already longer than this, and I still have a lot to add. I am loving every moment of it too.

The horns were bone, but they were covered in keratine, so in reality they were larger than the skeleton skull. The frill made it more difficult for a predator to attack the neck of the animal. Apart from that it also makes the animal look bigger (like a frilled lizard) to intimidate a rival or predator. If you look at buffalo's, the horns are used against each other and against predators as well. The ball joint in the neck of a ceratopsian made it very maneuverable, being able to put its head facing a rival or predator. Like they were build for combat.

you neglected discussing the possibility/advantages of soft armor tissues say with lots of collagen (a lighter neck shield can be directed around much faster than a heavy thick bony ones). Lack of horn+skeletal sexual dimorphism points to defense since many if not most vertebrate displays are sex-specific.

Would you be able to put together a dromeosaur vid? Less about velociraptors, more about the bigger, North American species?

Indeed ceratopsians would’ve been a force to be reckon with triceratops is just basically like an elephant size rhino but much heavier than an African elephant. So triceratops was a fighter after all so all that Jack Horner crap was BS and I just don’t know why people still worship him sorry if I’m a bit off topic but nice video

GREAT video! Q's: Is it possible that triceratops' horns lowered as the animal got taller, because unlike a smaller, shorter animal, it could charge an adversary without needing to lower it's head so far? Without having to raise its head to impale another animal's abdominal region, perhaps they gained increased peripheral vision in fighting, for one. And with that head position being more lined up/parallel to it's spine, perhaps that could have given more of a mechanical advantage when thrusting a horn(s) into an advisory like a pachy when it rams it's head? Juveniles being shorter, wouldn't the horn's angle need to be turned upward because it needs to lift it's head upward to reach the body of a taller/larger attacker? You made me a new triceratops fan, thank you Hobart! I hope to hear your thoughts.

Good video, but i have question on 16:02 you said that large ceratopsians founded on Laramidia, but we have sinoceratops that lived in China 70-66 m. b.c, maybe that mistake who knows, but Laramidia it's not only continent where can live large ceratopsians

I know how stupid this sounds but I've looked at a Lot of places/sites! Can someone tell me where I can get a photo, diagram or even a sketch, of how the spinal Cord gets past that Ball and Socket Neck on that Organic Carbon Based Battering Ram.- Cycads Appalachia I've heard still has a Butt-load of carbon sink if anybody should ever need it.

Minor correction. Marsh indeed classify the first remains as Ceratops Montanus but current the species is seen as dubious by paleontologists.

Do you think you'll ever dive into the mammals that were around during this time? I know they were pretty much all small, but there must have been a variety of them. I just never hear about them

I would love to do that. As I do more, I am hoping I'm going to get faster and better. After covering the famous dinosaurs, I'm going to branch office into other times on the planet. I'll cover those mammals before leaving the Mesozoic
