I've got the gtr since 4 months, sold all my boosted, and yes I hate the remote, it stupid to have 2 triggers, with one you have quicker reactivity. The lake of full stop mode, and the reverse are a pain In the ass, unacceptable for a 2000usd. The deck shape gave me terrible feet pain the first 2 weeks, like you I've got my toes on the edge! After saying that it's a good , powerful, long range esk8. But it's not a commute board, to heavy, to big in the bus or subway. It's a good board for sport ride and it is a real transportation to point a to b. The gtr is largely better than the old gt and GTX, the 6 and 7inch are awesome for who live in bad roads area. The best feeling for me is with the 97mm wheels and the 6inch At

Some comments I had nearing the end of the video: The deck concave helps a lot with tight carving and high speed / race cornering. Totally understand that it feels different and maybe uncomfortable compared to the boosted decks but whenever I switch back to boosted from my evolve it feels too flat and I’m not locked in. You can totally stand the board up on the belt guards and it won’t damage the motors at all. I myself took the belt guards off (to prevent little rocks getting in there and eating up my belt) and just stand it up on the motor mount plates themselves and it holds up fine, as long as the motors aren’t extending over them because then it’d rest on the motor cans, which can eventually misalign. They are also pretty watertight and can be used in normal rain when absolutely needed (the water will splash up a lot) but Evolve just does not cover water damage in their warranty and riding on wet surfaces with this much torque is unsafe :) Other than that great video. Hate the split forward & brake remote and I really dislike deadman switches
@chrisscott004 жыл бұрын
Was just about to comment the same thing. Evolve released two separate videos showing off the "waterproof" capabilities of the board, however as you said for warranty purposes, they don't use the term "waterproof". Never had any issue or fear of standing any of my evolve boards up on belt guards. On the spec sheet, it seems Evolve top boosted in almost all fields, however I totally agree with remote design lacking a dial forward / brake, and WE NEED REVERSE!
@nail25294 жыл бұрын
i glad somone mentioned these points i been riding evolve foe 3 years now and have some add on comments as well. as for the motors you can get a addon compont called a bash gard kit and it will protect the underside and the back side of the motors I think the remote is subjective i personly like the spliting of the switches. back years ago they did have a combined accelerator/bake its called the R1 it was rubbish there was nothing good about it. you controled everything with your index finger just look up the pictures. made they could make a seconed version of the remote with a thumb wheel As for reverse yet again this is somthing that they also used to have but with the way the remotes where programed no one used it as you had to go down the speed setting to find it. Evolve Gen1 and the R1 without the LCD should have it. it can be modded in to the GTX range but you need to find older components such as motor contorlers and remote's. i personly have not noticed not having a reverse if there is a situation where i need it i eaither kick backwards or take a foot on the board. and for the deadmans switch thats the first thing that gets turned off out of the box and never get turned back on.
@electricdeckhead30834 жыл бұрын
I found their decks uncomfortable, I changed all my gear over to a landyachts 40 inch evo spectrum, the difference is night and day. just coming from a skating and longboard background I didn't like the bamboo so much as I prefer a stiffer deck, each to his own but well worth a try if needing a new deck or wanting something different.

The GTR's might not be officially rated for resistance, but the bamboo and the carbon were both designed with it in mind; they've got rubber gaskets on the inside of the enclosures to seal the electronics away from water. I've taken my CGTR through damp, water and mud more than a few times in the 3000 miles since I've purchased it, never had a problem.

I bought my Evolve Bamboo GTR recently while in quarantine in Alaska. I opted for the 7 inch wheel size due to rough road conditions here and have zero regrets. This board has been amazing to ride but I agree with your comments about the remote. Coming from a Boosted this remote takes time to get used to and braking can be scary when at top speed. I find it can be touchy and engage too quickly with the lightest touch. I would recommend everyone get the bash guard kit to protect the motors from Evolve when buying the board. If you get the 7 inch wheels I typically get 17 miles of range. Thanks for your review!

-why not seperate break and acceleration? In a car it’s seperate too. Makes me personally more confident in breaking if there is one leaver designated to do so, especially in emergency situations. -I never felt the need for a reverse, when I want to come to a stop I usually dismount with one foot, because I live in a very hilly place so always kick push to save energy when accelerating from 0. - a dead man switch for me is used to avoid accelerating when I don’t want it. As far as I’m concerned this only happens when I’m in a stand still, if I’m hanging the remote from the wrist strap for example. Every time I’m rolling I have the remote in my hand to stay in control. Tastes are different, me personally I love the evolve remote and can’t really use one like boosted. Apart from that I really like your video, ride safe!💪🏼

Evolve's price tag is just too high for me and I don't think I'd trust myself in the NYC streets with that remote as well, Maybe I am just too used to the Hobbywing remote. Some of the Chinese manufactured boards have some crazy value, but a lot of looking for a good board from a smaller brand means being a conscious consumer. I usually recommend Meepo to someone on a budget, but a lot of people are recommending Exway, I second that positivity you gotta try out their boards, I am also a huge fan of the backfire Ranger and Ownboard for AT boards. It'd be sick if you reviewed more boards to help get more people into electric skateboarding.

Hey Sam, nice review very well summed up. I got this board two weeks ago, and I think it’s worth to point out that the controller has a very odd feel while applying acceleration. It’s never natural as in booster, and I find it very hard to smoothly start my ride. Boosted feels so natural no mater the speed, where with evolve I have to keep my trigger finger very steady and gently apply the force not to cause sharp acceleration. Also, my cover for power input always poops up, leaving it open for a ride.

I have over 3000mi on the evolve and at least 2000mi across the two boosteds. Having the other two boards is great when friends what to go riding, or I need the compactness of the Mini X but gosh darn it, the Evolve boards are just marvelous pieces of hardware. Evolves support team is also OUTSTANDING! Better than boosted. When I had my Mini X belts snap in the first 10mi because they were over tightened from the factory, I literally had to beg Boosted for a new set. Evolve has time and time again proven they are committed to making quality products and offer fantastic support.

Well it's about time, I know you talked about Evolve before but Boosted has been out of the game for a couple months now and Evolve was like their main competitor. I bought my BGT in New Zealand and can't agree more on those US and EU price, I now live in France and there is no way I am putting that much money into an electric skateboard even though I work in tech and love riding these. But Evolve is the only brand I know that is compliant with the laws in France, thanks to them they enabled me to get my board compliant for the price of a remote. On that topic, Evolve used to have a one trigger remote and a reverse mode, they got rid of it because of accidents happening with the reverse engaging when it wasn't supposed to. The fact that the GTR is bigger than the BGT is also a deal breaker for me, I hope my BGT will hold until they come up with something between the GTR and the Stoke.

I also used the Evolve Bamboo, but only the GT and my main concern is also the remote. "Grip to accelerate" is just weird and needs a lot of brain rewiring to get used to. Let me explain. As a person who has ridden a motorcycle and bike for a lot of years, my brain is programmed to "grip the brake" to slow down, brake or even panic stop. I almost got run over by a car riding the Evolve because instead of pressing the brake using my thumb, my 2-wheel instinct of "grip to brake" kicked in, so of course the Evolve accelerated really fast. I had to jump away from the board while it accelerated away. Got cursed by the car driver too HAHAHAHAHA

I've had my Evolve GT for 1,5 years. Really like it, but the remote isn't the best. I think separating the accelerator and brake isn't really a big issue if you haven't used a boosted. It made total sense to me from day one. But not being able to stop the board when it rolls slowly is really annoying. Would love to be able to put it in reverse. I usually hop off when I wait at a pedestrian crossing because the board always starts slowly rolling into the street since it normally slopes down towards the crosswalk. The accelerator is also a tad bit too aggressive. I like riding fast, but it's hard to dial in the right amount of throttle when you've been rolling down the hill for a little while or something similar..
