This is my Ewan McGregor Replaced with Alec Guinness in the Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi Series concept which through "Deep Fake" technology I portray what a Alec Guinness might look like in the current Obi Wan Kenobi series exclusively on Disney+. Obi-Wan Kenobi is an American television miniseries created for the streaming service Disney+. It is part of the Star Wars franchise, beginning ten years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005), and stars Ewan McGregor as the title character, reprising his role from the Star Wars prequel trilogy.
The project originated as a spin-off film to be written by Hossein Amini and directed by Stephen Daldry, but it was reworked as a limited series by Amini following the commercial failure of Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) and the franchise's subsequent pivot to television. McGregor was confirmed to be starring in August 2019, and Deborah Chow was hired to direct a month later. Production was scheduled to begin in July 2020, but the series was put on indefinite hold in January 2020 because Lucasfilm was unhappy with the series' scripts. Joby Harold was hired to rewrite the series and serve as showrunner in April 2020, executive producing with Chow, McGregor, Kathleen Kennedy, and Michelle Rejwan. Additional castings were announced in March 2021, with co-stars such as Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Jimmy Smits, James Earl Jones, and Hayden Christensen also reprising their prequel trilogy roles. Filming began by May 2021 in Los Angeles, using StageCraft video wall technology, and wrapped by September. Star Wars film composer John Williams wrote the series' main theme.
Obi-Wan Kenobi premiered on May 27, 2022, with its first two episodes. The other four episodes will be released weekly until June 22. The series has received positive reviews, with particular praise for McGregor's performance, Chow's direction, as well as its tone and visuals, but some criticized the story and writing.

Holy shit I’ve just realised. Deepfake Alec Guinness looks like Russell Crowe (especially as Zeus in the new Thor) That explains the uncanniness I was feeling.

The only difference is their nose. Ewan’s nose is more widened out. While Alec’s nose is more Straight downwards. Although it is possible your nose shape could change when you get old

My thing is like, episode 1 obi/mcgregor looked so young. How Lucas looked at him and saw Alec Guinness in 30 years is kind of astounding because the resemblance is quite uncanny

I remember in the special edition DvDs there was a segment about the casting of young Obi-Wan. They talked about a certain "triangle" zone in your face which includes your brow, eyes and most of the nose, and apparently if those triangles match up closely, we perceive those people as extremely similar. Then they showed Alec's and Ewan's triangle's merged and they looked nearly identical. That's why Ewan was picked from what I can only presume was a long casting process.

Agreed! Plus, he now naturally looks like an older Obi Wan in his early 50s. They made Ewan look older in episode 3 through makeup, as he was in his early 30s.

The fact that there is very little difference between the Deep Fake Guiness and Ewan MacGregor is a testament to how much Ewan looks like Alec Guiness and was perfectly cast to play him.

Yes. Even the little things that aren’t similar between them, Ewan tried as best he could to match him through gestures and that really tops any physical similarity imo.

@@justindiffenderfer7484 If we're being completely fair, Ewan was originally cast due to his resemblance to a young Alec Guinness. One of the documentaries on the old DVD releases for the prequels overlayed a picture of Ewan with a picture of Alec. The facial match was very high. I want to say that they said it was in the 80-90% range.

It still blows my mind how much Ewan looks like Alec Guinness. The casting for the Prequel Trilogy was fantastic. A fantastic bridge between two actors in performances of the same character.

And, in addition, James Arnold Taylor did an equally fantastic job at further bridging and complimenting the two great Obi-Wan actors in the show, Star Wars: The Clone Wars! -- Of which Ewan himself has mentioned how he's seen the show and personally enjoyed it, via several Kenobi show interviews, I might add! :)

They did an EXCELLENT job casting Ewan as Obi-Wan! It's amazing how they actually look very similar. Especially with the side by side clips. I remember watching behind the scenes stuff from the prequels and them laying images of Alec's face over Ewan's and the resemblance was so on point.

@@obi89 I think it very much depends on why it's being done, and the movie it's going in, and I don't think it's questionable in Star wars. Bringing back a dead actor in Star wars is just bringing back the character, and I don't see it as any different to realistic toys, videogame appearances, or comic books. They all use the actors likeness, because the actors likeness is part of the character (nobody sees deepfake Luke as Mark Hamill, he's immediately seen as Luke), the ethics become questionable when you are bringing back dead actors for new characters, and casting them for star power.

It’s interesting to see Ewan McGregor now playing Obi Wan. For Revenge of the Sith, he was in his early 30s and made to look older with a bit of fake gray hair. After these 17 years, he naturally now looks only a bit older from how he did in Episode 3, nearly 20 years ago. I can definitely see him looking a lot like Alec Guinness in the coming years!

Too bad the timeline of the Star Wars movies does not match since he still comes off too young looking even now in the Kenobi series which is nine years before ANH and I can't buy Obi Wan will age that significantly as we see him in that movie. He should have been older in the prequels.

@@devontehuntley6274 The Star Wars time gap never made sense to be honest. It never felt like 19 years between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. It seemed more like 23-25. Luke doesn’t look 19, he looks older. Obi Wan doesn’t look 57, he looks 67 in A New Hope. That’s why I think even Ewan McGregor said something like “They’re saying it’s about 10 years after Revenge of the Sith” but in the context he implied it seemed less time than that. I realized I mostly ignore the official timeline in Star Wars, since it doesn’t make sense. And you’re correct. Obi Wan here would not suddenly age so dramatically in 9 years to have mostly white and gray hair like Alec Guinness did. I kept saying before the first episode even aired that why does Obi Wan look too close to the Revenge of the Sith appearance? He literally looks like how he did in that film with a slightly shorter beard and grown out hair. No gray beard, no gray hair to look similar to Alex Guinness. It just doesn’t make sense, so I would just disregard the official 19 year timeline.

@@jk22222sd The only thing that makes the time gap work is Carrie Fisher who was in fact 19 when she had the role of Leia and would turn out to be the other offspring of Anakin which is coincidental. But even she did not look her age and looked far older. I was shocked to learn she was that young in 1976 when filming took place.

@@devontehuntley6274 Right. Carrie Fisher looked 25 in A New Hope, not 19. I think the timeline of the Prequels was fine and Obi Wan being in his early 40s by Revenge of the Sith, but it doesn’t make sense to be 19 years later. He simply looks too old to be in his 50s.

This is beautiful, just watched episode 4 last night too! Sir Alec Guinness may have not liked star wars too much, but he greatly shaped my view of what a 'good man' is, and for that I'll be forever thankful. Ewan McGregor does him great justice. Hi Stryder HD! Well done bro! That is some excellent work! The one thing that gets to me, as a 46yo Star Wars nut, is that Owen and especially Beru look about 30 years younger in this show. There is no way that Beru goes from looking 30 to 65 in just a 10 year period! Anyhow, it's slightly more believable with Ewan, and more so, now with your deepfake work! 👍🤘

I've always thought how much James McCavoy with a beard looks like a young Alec Guinness. Can you try deep faking his face too? Would be an interesting comparison and perhaps can scan it better as he can get away with looking like a similar age to Ewan.

I was thinking if the series progressed in to the later era they could do something like mix them both together a bit more of Alec would be needed, nice attempt. 👍
