I love both versions but it must be said that in the video Elton John's "live" version is proposed, while Ewan's version is "recorded" and sounds better. The comparison must be made with both The recorded songs . No! You can't prefer one over the other one!

Elton...and this was the live version from Elton at the pop 70's up comers show...playing piano perfectly and singing. The audio quality is not the same for one...EJ's is muffled and unclear, while McGregor's is 100% computer pre recorded. One isn't even singing live or playing. Love Ewan though. Never knew he could even sing. It's Elton's song LOL this doesn't even exist without him
