British Rail Southern Electric units in blue /grey livery came to visit Ewhurst Green model railway!
4 BEP no. 7010 (phase 1) entered service 9th May 1959, being outshopped blue /grey livery on 22nd November 1967 before being sent to Swindon for refurbishment /renumbering as 1534 on 28th May 1981.
4 CEP no. 7113 (phase 1) entered service 11th October 1958, being outshopped blue /grey on 12th September 1968 before being sent to Swindon for refurbishment /renumbering as 1524 on 10th October 1980. One of its trailer coaches (70262) is still used on the mainline within preserved Hastings unit 1001.
MLV no. 68009 (phase 2) was completed 28th March 1961 being outshopped blue /grey livery on 18th August 1969 which it carried until LSE Sector livery ('Jaffa Cake') on 4th December 1986 (in which it was withdrawn). Besides working on boat trains, MLV duties also included the haulage of short van trains and latterly as depot shunting horses.
Units nos. 6213 & 6259 were built as 2 EPB units 5713 (17th August 1954 - blue /grey & renumbered 6213 c.March 1985) and 5759 (20th June 1956 - blue /grey & renumbered 6259 in November 1984).
Following public disquiet over passenger attacks in compartment stock these were shew as 2 COM units in operating publications from April 1988. Carrying a red cantrail stripe along the compartment section of the DTS, they were restricted mainly to peak-hour services.
Nos. 6213 & 6259 were the last pair to survive in service on 13th June 1995; unit 6259 is now in preservation as 5759.
