Salvation is done through faith, but salvation isn't a single moment, it is a continual process that grows us closer to God over the course of our lives. At no point will any work that you do merit the kingdom of heaven. Catholicism doesn't teach a works based gospel.

Paul and the scriptures are very clear regarding the issue of homosexuality and the issue of same sex relationships. It is an abomination to God! This is not the forum to go into detail but you can begin with Sodom and Gomorrah. If you claim to be a person of faith you may want to begin by aligning yourself with the scriptures and compassionately reach out to the gay community with the truth that God loves them but requires them to move out of that lifestyle.
