Because while doing elimination method both the first term has to be equal in order to cancel out the whole equation... For example the 1st equation was 15 = a+4d and 2nd equation 25 = 2a+9d if the 2nd equation was 25 = 5a + 9d then we had to multiply 5 in the first equation in order to equal out both the equation!
