His issue is that she put her career first is that in a single year she only saw the child she claims to want so much only 20 times. She also said she has a job so she’s leaving and is taking the kid. The same kid she claims to want for love but it simply a power play. If it was about the kid and her career she would not have asked him leave his new girlfriend. She simply doesn’t like the idea that another woman is willing to do what she won’t. As a woman you can still have a career and have a family but you need to compromise. Something she isn’t willing to do. No where did he say she had to be financially dependent on him. His new woman has a career and is willing to parent a child that isn’t even hers. Shows a great deal about the differences in character. She wasn’t even willing to come back when he told her he wasn’t well and her son needed her. She doesn’t love either of them she just loves control.

I think that if you watch the whole series it is about women supporting each other and empowering them to do the best. The issue with the ex wife is she left him literally holding the baby and when he was seriously injured and the child needed her she chose her work. Since then she has shown no interest in having the child until she saw her ex bring in a happy relationship. So she is not the ideal for a modern self reliant , rather she is selfish and spoilt.
