Saw them live with Eddie Jobson. Still remember the concert and the recent Steven Wilson treatment of it really captures the energy. Too bad he didn't actually join. I'm watching this out of order... terrific interview. Martin Barre seems like such a great guy, very normal, talking about his job, which he obviously loves. So interesting!

What a great interview. I saw the tour with UK at Chicago Stadium and is was stunning. Nice to know they were buds with lots of mutual respect by all.

Great interview! I'm glad I stumbled onto this. Don't think I've ever heard Martin talk. He's got a lot to say.

Martin comes across just as I imagined him to be. He knows he's a great guitarist but he's not at all egotistic about it. He also gives credit to other players and obviously respects them. I've been a fan ever since Jethro Tull, "Benefit."

What a voice he has! I wonder if he had ever been the vocalist of any song...I'll return to this later...got something to tell...

yeah, because he takes so long to say anything, and then he has to hedge it, and qualify it, and re-hedge and re-qualify everything, and add in a few cliches about just loving music. ;-)

Jethro Tull was never the same after Martin Barre departed. His phenomenal electric guitar sound WAS Jethro Tull. Excellent interview btw.

Gotta love Martin Barre, he is definitely the "blondest" member of Jethro Tull, and that includes Eddie Jobson, whether he was actually a member or not. Mardy carved out a piece of Jethro Tull that Ian could not take over or get rid of for .. what, 40+ years or something. But one cannot help wondering ... at least I can't ... what if Martin Barre had been a bit more type-A, and what if Ian Anderson had been a bit less Type-A?

Great interview, Martin is such a nice guy. It really good to hear him talk about his respect for Allan Holdsworth. It's a real shame how Ian Anderson treated him, he is an integral part of Tull, as all fans agree.

Martin is one of my unsung heroes, I’ve always liked his guitar playing since he replaced Mick Abrahams. Over the years he’s come out with some brilliant licks and I’ve always considered him an intrical part of the Tull, even though it seemed like Ian was stealing the show.

Hmm these were the days when the band members still has some input even though the real Tull guys had literally been "disbanded". Glascock's passing has never seriously been evaluated. Barlow was affected and thereby disaffected. Then to summarily dismiss Evan who was such a major contributor and an old friend taking with him Palmer's long standing place in the orchestral arrangements department, the band never ever recovered. Moments of inspiration yes eg. Black Sunday but nothing to compare with what had been and everything else became so pedestrian, literally Hot Mango Flush!

Totally agree Kevin, Tull peaked around 1979 and never fully recovered.

@@uncleambient The most talented people are often the most damaged. As he said of himself "Wounded Old and Treacherous" when he was still relatively young. There is something destructive in Ian that has been variously unleashed down the years. 79 was the worst when the band was destroyed at the absolute peak. Evan gave up university to make his life with Tull. He was integral to who they were and what they had become and reduced to becoming a builder. He and Ian had been mates from school days. We saw it with Abrahams, Cornick, Evan-Barlow & Palmer, Giddings (who was never really allowed to contribute like Evan) and now Barre. I regret I cannot help hearing anything except an ABBA song when I try to listen to anything recent "Money Money Money"

I get what your saying and I suppose we just have to except that things go off the boil and can't stay the same and I think that Anderson had the foresight to recognise that and make the nesasery changes in the band each time they were heading for the buffers.

great interview .... i am sure martin has tons of stuff to say that he is too loyal or polite to go on, but I know a lot of Tull fans really want to know. tull's music has always been excellent in its way, but the more ian has control the drier it has gotten and the narrower it seems to be. But there were so many nice parts in TAAB2 ... but HE ( Homo Erraticus ) was very thin and skimpy. i so much more preferred the energy and vigor, the JUICE, in the early tull, peaking with Aqualung, and I never think that album gets the credit it deserves, and especially the art work on it. I don't think i would have bnought that album had the artwork not intriqued me so, and the fake Bible verse on the back ... "in the beginning, man created God" .... blew me away. And after that heavy serious album, progressive album ... nothing, a lot of playing around.

What I want to know is the real reason for Glen Cornick's departure. Through the various documentaries, the story has changed over the years. The big clue is in the 25th anniversary documentary, which might lead some to believe that the early rumors were true.

The first 4 albums were Jethro Tull not Ian Anderson Band..Yes he strum out a idea on acoustic ..but the Band made it their own energy.Ian was and still is confused that it's his songwriting skills are TULL...nope..Glen ..Clive ..An especially Martin Barre shaped the sound ..The flute was nice unique frosting ..but far from the cock n balls of its magical tone and rythum of sound that was Tull..sorry Ian..now your band sounds and has no flavor..out

@@davelogan9221: No doubt, every member of the TAAB band will say, without hesitation, that John Evan should have received co-writing credits for that album. Without him, the album would not have been possible, let alone sound the way it does.

@@whistlerwind7422 To me John Evans was as important as Martin, and Ian, Glen Cormick (I love the Boureé bass line.) Forgive the no drummer reference. Martin's so funny with the wine and jamming.

@@whistlerwind7422 I have no.idea why more things were not I. Anderson, M. Barre, J. Evans G.Cormick etc. Boureé Needs bass credit. Look at Zeppelin. They tied to act like equals esp. in the beginning. Page Plant, Jones Bonham. is on many songs in the first five.

Jobson is now retired, the R&R Hall of Fame induction with Roxy Music was his final performance. He played on over 100 albums with UK, Tull, Roxy, Deep Purple, Frank Zappa and others. See Wikipedia.
