Agree in some part but some have started late in life and need to get paid to do this where amateur ranks don’t pay. Also some really good naturally talented lads go pro from white collar. My good friend Thomas Young went for boxing in white collar to then turn pro and secure himself a position on the ultimate boxer where he knocked out newly signed (by Eddie hearn) favourite to win Issac Macleod in a second round ko. He’s now ranked 23 in the country and trains his back off like any other pro and then some.

I think Gavins main issue is with the so called titles that a lot of unlicensed & semi pro shows have on them rather than the shows themselves.

There's loads of experienced amateurs that do the unlicensed scene to top-up their income, so I think it's reasonable to say 'semi-pro', or just unlicensed. But 'white collar' is a term used for something separate. Hardly no white collar workers do unlicensed boxing, it's mostly charity and complete novice bouts they do.

if you don't it semi-pro then what do you call it? white collar is not a catch all name as it only covers the lawyer & banker types. You can't call it amateur as Am boxing is its own sport with clearly defined rules, many of which would exclude huge amounts of the population because of age, drug tests or whatever or merely because promoters want to charge money and earn profits from events. Semi pro is the most appropriate name and pro boxers whinging about it need to get over themselves. Pro boxers, even at the highest levels like multiple world champs only tend to have less than 20 fights on them. People can become world champ in only 2-3 pro bouts like lomachenko did and the Thai bloke before him. Personally I think an accomplished amateur holds the most prestige , with the 100+ fights a good amateur has, being by far more meaningful than most pro careers. If the general public don't understand, f'em. The general public will never understand fight sports properly so who cares. look at pro wrestling for example. which is fake, compared to amateur wrestling which is perhaps the toughest sport on the planet.
