Actually I am Oct 1998 born...I couldn't see Walsh bowling live so I don't have any favourite memories of him,but I came to know his legacy after knowing that West Indies were a legendary team once and started to fall in that period he was a saviour hero to them !!! More than Ambrose I love Walsh ❣️ like that more than Wasim Akram I love Waqar Younis ❣️

Gentleman. He refused to "mankad" Wasim Jaffer in the 1987 WC Match. Had he mankaded Jaffer, WI would've reached the semi-finals. But they lost the match. There started the downward slide of WI cricket...

He has an amazong record, but top players actually said that they didnt fear him as much as Ambrose, and ambrose was easily the deadlier bowler of the two. This is why he isnt spoken of in the same breath as ambrose, marshall, mcgrath, akram. Very consistent but not threatening

Only Steve Waugh had said that, it's the perspective of batsmen. Walsh was equally terrifying, a great work horse, could bowl endlessly which Ambrose couldn't.

When most fast bowlers (especially those from the West Indies) were concentrating on speed, Walsh was more about accuracy and a the best way to outsmart the batsmen. He was one of the first to use the "three card tricks ," two leaving the batsmen and the third cutting back in to the batsmen. He would also do it in reverse. Two cutting back just outside off and then the third would leave the batsmen just enough to get the edge. Marvelous craftsmanship. No wonder he is one of the best the world has ever seen.

His bowling action was pretty simple and hence more repeatable, he didn't even bend his back all the way through, mainly because he didn't have to due to his natural strength. Always a legend, Walsh! Would love to see a video on Arvinda De Silva as well.

If I had to pick one between Ambrose and Walsh for Tests, I would readily pick Walsh because he has taken a lot more top-order wickets than Ambrose. Also, Walsh was a work-horse that would toil very hard and bowl long spells to provide break-throughs even in unhelpful conditions. An under-appreciated genius! P.S.: For ODI's, I would pick Ambrose ahead of Walsh as he was much harder to score off of...

These big tall guys with big hands who generally move the ball into the bat also get leg cut on the ball as a natural variation. With Walsh's height and accuracy that's a nightmare ball to any right hander. That's why I think he did so well in India. Some would slide in and others would grip and move away off the pitch. Tremendous bowling. His short ball also followed the batter and lifted steeply off a length.

How good ? Well, he was given the new ball for the first time a decade after making his debut and by then he was already 31 years old, an age at which most pace bowlers, even the greatest of them, start displaying signs of decline. But in Walsh's case, starting from becoming the new ball bowler and Ambrose's partner-in-crime to being the solitary leader of a pack of young and inexperienced pacers in his penultimate seasons, he took over 300 test wickets averaging 23 in 8 years, 180 of them coming in 39 appearances AFTER he turned 35. He didn't just soldier on, he kept getting better and better right upto the last delivery of his international career, in the process becoming the first to scale the Himalayan landmark of 500 test scalps. That's not at all the mark of a good bowler ? These are the traits of an OUTSTANDING bowler beyond doubt. Only thing going against him is he attained his peak in the aftermath of the downfall of the West Indies as world champions.

@@CricketStories007 in the language of football, the goalscorer is indeed brilliant, but the GOAL MAKER is the one regarded a true genius. Ambrose relished in dismissing batsmen in droves, but he'd be the first to admit it was Courtney who set them up in a position from where it became easier for Ambrose. And needless to mention, on flat subcontinental wickets against top tier batting line-ups from India and pakistan where even immortals like Lillee were made to look ordinary, Walsh excelled to a league of his own.

@@Timberwolf1992 Bro your cricketing knowledge is just brilliant! Walsh was a legend in his own right. He was a work-horse who could bowl long spells whenever his team needed. I think the only reason Walsh is kind of overlooked is his inconsistency in ODIs.

@@Timberwolf1992 Also, he was consistent in Asia too, I remember this particular stat which I saw on the internet where Walsh took 43 Wickets at an average of 19 in India. I think the closest comparison to Walsh, would actually be McGrath. Both had metronomic line and length and pinpoint accuracy.
