Starting the biggest patio of the season! With the very nice sandy sub soil and a Mini Excavator, preparing the base was easy on this one. Enjoy the video!

I’ve been following for a while. I work for a company where we do pools, paver patios, concrete, turf, really anything the customer wants. And I run one of our hardscape crews, where 90% of the time we are doing a paver project. Anything from a 10x10 square patio to a large 1000+ sq ft pool deck. And I think virtually every video I watch of yours gives me better methods that allow a job to go a lot smoother and produce a better end product. The most important thing I picked up on from you is that you take the time to keep everything clean and organized. It’s helped prevent having to back track and fix certain things. Keep doing what your doing, love the videos and inspiration🫶🏻

Glad to hear it brother! I do not have any videos on bidding jobs, I have been only focusing on building videos. I may end up making videos on estimating but not sure how I want to do it quite yet...

I love your channel man and have watched almost every video(some more than once) and im so thankful to have found this content. I just joined the hardscape division earlier this summer with some prior experience but only a little. Ive been watching your videos since last winter and dude you have helped me grow my understanding as a whole and i im able to be a good help like benny. Currently training to be a crew lead eventually and run my own projects. You're helping me pursue my dream and you dont even know it! Thanks again bro

Mini ex worked so smooth for that. I imagine you're planning to get one some day. I just completed a basement egress window last week. They wanted the window well built out of retaining wall block as opppsed to using a pre-formed plastic or metal well. The block was 12 inches deep and they wanted a double hung window which was 60 inches tall to meet the opening requirements for an egress. All that meant nearly 5 yards of dirt needed to be excavated for the well. Using a small rented kubota tractor with a backhoe it took an entire day to dig that well. Lol. I knew I wanted to use a mini ex but tried to kill two birds with one stone by having the tractor with the bucket to transport the excavated material. Lesson learned as I would have been better off using a mini to dig on day one and got the tractor for day two as I ended up transporting material the next day anyway.

Thank you, quality is key! That sounds like a cool project you did, and there was nothing wrong with the though you had about the tractor. Sometimes things go a little differently than expected. You just throw it in the memory bank and keep it in mind for the next job. ✌

Great video , we are just dipping our toes into hardscaping! And your videos definitely help so thank you! Also when your excavating do you use a laser or string line or just dig and fill?

Nice, congrats! I use string lines and levels to check grades while excavating and backfilling. But the main thing is to make sure the sub soil slopes away from the house.

I have a raised patio above the soil level about 4 inches. The compacted base stone is about 4 inches below the soil line and I forgot to put the soil barrier under the base stone. Is it worth putting it between the base stone and HPB?

Love the videos, you guys are amazing at what you do. Quick question: regarding the last step of compacting the poly sand into the pavers, how much does that usually compact the pavers into the chip stone? I have a retaining wall that I'm wanting the top of pavers to match the top of the wall; just not sure if I should make it so after I screed and lay the pavers; they sit 1/4" or (x) above the retaining wall to account for compacting the poly sand, or if they don't compact very much I can just screed and lay the pavers to meet the top of the wall and then compact. Hopefully that makes sense. Appreciate any advice. God bless.
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper 10 ай бұрын
Glad to hear it! We usually screed the chip stone 1/4" high and hammer the edges into place to sit flush with the top of the wall. Definitely better to set a bit high than to low or you will have issues down the road. Good luck! ✌

Looking good guys! I'm assuming the concrete pad for the spa has to be level? How do you factor this in with the slope of the pavers?
@jamesnm21
@jamesnm21 10 ай бұрын
My guess is they may cheat a little around the slab and then continue the slope but not sure.
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper 10 ай бұрын
Thank you, we do build the pad level, but we based it off the slope needed for the pavers to match correctly on al sides.

I'm looking at installing pavers for new patio... we have a hot tub and am curious why you poured concrete slab instead of using pavers for hot tub as well....I'm a novice so I don't really understand... any help would be appreciated....
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper 10 ай бұрын
A concrete pad is much better for a hot tub than pavers. Less likely to shift or move under the weight of the tub.

I like the open method but I have an issue for my area... I want to do my patio using the open base method but I cannot get 3/4" clean crushed base. The only stuff available is 5/8" would this actually work or should I just stick with the traditional base instead.
@TheChristianHardscaper
