If I convert a pivot to cube, and then later refresh my power Query, will it automatically update the cube table like a pivot table would auto update with the new date field/column, etc?

Great video but this seems like a lot of manual work. Power Pivot will pull new through data automatically where as in the cube you have to update your data by hand if you want to make additions and modifications. I guess this is great if you have a "set and forget" style dashboard however i still think powerpivot has some great out of the box functionality that exceeds cube functions

I agree, but my customers want the ability to insert columns to their pivot tables at different points in the pivot table (which you obviously can’t do). So converting to cube is helpful for that. My problem is what you mentioned.. when I get new data I’m for the next month and hit refresh all for power Query, I want it to auto populate the new data like a pivot table would. To my knowledge the cube won’t auto update unless you go add in the formulas for the new data. (which might have a new date in the column field list).

If my next month of data has a new sales person, will it automatically add them to the cube upon data>refresh.

You did a good job but it could have been made better had you explained the syntax . eg, referring to a cell, use of ampersand etc

Can you use cube formulas to look up items instead of values?

Jonathan yes. The cubemember function returns members of a dimension. You just have to know the dimension key (item number or gl number etc.)

(sales - cos)/sales = margin (sales - cos)/cos = markup 2 different things
