Let us see the partial match case. The SEARCH function looks for the text "blue" within the text in cell B3. If blue is found, SEARCH returns the position of the first character of blue in the text string. For example, if B3 contains 45 Blue Street, the formula returns 4 since blue starts at the 4th character.
If blue is not found, SEARCH returns a value error.
The ISNUMBER function checks whether the result of the SEARCH formula is a number. If blue is found in B3, SEARCH indicating the position, and ISNUMBER will return TRUE. If blue is not found, ISNUMBER will return FALSE.
Let us see the exact match case. In this case, the word blue appears exactly as a standalone word in the text. To find an exact match, we need to modify the SEARCH formula. This modification adds a space to the beginning and the end of the text in cell B3, ensuring there are spaces before and after the search word. If the search text is found, SEARCH returns the position, and ISNUMBER will return TRUE.
