If you have a Mac with a Microsoft Office version that is newer than 2011, your constraints need to be implemented so that all variables are on one side of the symbol. In this video, I explain the issue and its solution in more detail.

Any idea how to set constraint on changing variable to specific numbers [5,10,15] only for example?

You can think of this variable as representing multiples of 5, or batches/boxes of 5 items. So you define an integer variable X that can be 1, 2, 3, etc. (using the constraint in Solver). The meaning of this variable could be "how many boxes of 5 items to have." Then you use 5X instead of X in all the formulas in which it needs to appear.

This is caused by the problem being over constrained and the issue is with one of the (or a group of the) constraints. What I usually do is this: go to the grey area (i.e. the variables), start with it empty, and then assign some simple values to the grey cells (for example 1 or 2) and check that the resulting calculations that use those cells are returning the values you'd expect to see. Or try inputting a solution that you know should be feasible and then see if some calculated number looks weird. For instance, in this problem, type in the gray area a solution that only makes one type of gasoline. Try this with all gasolines (one at a time). You'll eventually find out where the issue is. In the worst case, go back to the beginning of the video and double check that all the formulas you are typing match mine exactly. Good luck!

If you have (formula 1) = (formula 2), you proceed the same way and replace that with (formula 1) - (formula 2) = 0.

Hello Tally- I am hoping you can help me. I am running Office 2019 on my Mac and can't get solver to work properly for an assignment. The assignment is: George loves pork and carrot. He wants to have a diet of only these two foods. He realizes this isn't healthy. He wants to make sure he eats the right want quantities. Determine the number of daily servings of pork and carrot that will meet this requirement at a minimum cost. Pork Carrot Daily Requirement Carbs 6 17 >= 45 Protein 25 5 >=48 Fat 11 3

Given your question looks like homework, the best help I can offer is to point you to an example that will look similar to the diet problem you need to solve in terms of the layout and the formulas you'll need. @@TallysYunes Thank you. But I am running into the constraint problem you talked about in this video for Mac. Microsoft still has not fixed the solver issue for Mac so looking for a workaround to be able to use solver to complete assignments. Thanks for all your help.

The problem I talk about in this video won't happen to you because, as you wrote above, the constraints have only numbers on one side and all the variables will be on the other side. For example: (total carb intake) >= 45. If your sheet isn't solving right, it's because of another reason.
