In this video, we take a look at a couple of options for working in VR. Is it possible to be more productive, or to have a good work experience in VR with Virtual Desktop, Horizon Workrooms or immersed? Does it help to focus, complete tasks, or will your working day be riddled with glitches. Stay tuned to find out…..

Thanks for this. I agree that Immersed is the leader of the pack. I work in it four to five hours a day and do struggle with glitches like in this video. It's still worth it, and I have ordered the Visor headset which I expect will take the experience to a whole new level. There is also Fluid, which is well worth checking out in free Beta. The big advantage is that it doesn't need a computer. It too has glitches and crashes quite a bit. BUT, this is going to be a big part of VR from now on, and it will absolutely add significant value of VR for productivity and collaboration (one central aspect not mentioned here). Thanks again.

Interesting... I was not aware of the Visor headset, perhaps because I cancelled my ImmersedVr membership after getting frustrated with all the problems with it (described in this video). My personal feeling is that given what I perceive as the lack of quality of the immersedVR app, I will wait to see if the Visor headset delivers as promised. I already have xReal Air, which seems similar (though less feature packed) and the Meta Quest. I need to see the value of the Visor headset before I commit to it.

Totally understand. I put an early order in (full refundable until you submit ipd/face scan and get it specifically made for you) , and got it slightly cheaper, but I have on and off considered getting a full refund. It should be as clear as the Xreal air/air 2, but with an fov above the Quest 2. If it had displayport capability and was confirmed as working with steamvr, I wouldn't think twice as it would be perfect for sim racing/flying, as well as being used for work. I have no doubt it will work with steamvr at some point, but it will be over usb/WiFi, so will have compression and quite high lag to use the full resolution. It just seems a shame to spend my own money (and quite a bit) on something I may mostly use for work. The company I work for will love the potential extra productivity for free! 😁

I agree, I would personally like a slightly better resolution headset (using PICO 4),and slightly better Passthrough. Software wise I still come up against issues which is a pain when you need to get something done. Hopefully the perfect headset (reasonably priced) is only a year or so away, and the software fine tuned over the coming year to then have a hopefully faultless experience 👍

Great Video. Thank you. I'd be curious how you feel about the improvement they brought within the last 4 months ? I just got me a Pico 4, and I tried Immersed. I'm on Manjaro, and it might be buggier than with Windows. But I like it so far. I just hope I had better control over the monitor resolution and also a way to save and reset monitor position. However, I've seen a lot of bug when I disconnect and reconnect...

I'm thinking about saving up for the Pico 4 by Christmas and this is a pretty cool feature. I guess for screen settings I can create a different profile/account for my OS just for VR settings. I wonder how tough it is to create my own environments for Immersed.
@superkikim4916
@superkikim4916 Жыл бұрын
I hope, and expect that by next Christmas, you'll have more choice. The big caveat about Pico 4 for me is the cheap front camera for mix reality mode. It's a single camera, so everything is rendered in 2D when you walk and want to catch objects, and therefore it's hard to evaluate distances. and the image quality of that front camera is crap. That aside, I find it a great headset despite the low battery autonomy (which still is better than Quest 2). With Immersed I think it last max 1.5 hours for me. (I have to time it thou... I just know it's short). I plan to attach a power bank to it, to increase battery autonomy.
@kairon156
@kairon156 Жыл бұрын
@@superkikim4916 That's true, a mixed reality mode could make it so I can set up those screens within my room. Or have other Avatars around be they AI or people maybe? I suspect the next generation of front cameras will be colour and 3D, or fake 3D even. Agreed, the battery setup it has is one thing I wish was better. I'm so glad 3rd party people are on top of this and can setup batteries to fit in. Though with usb-c as the charging port, any battery could work if you attach it comfortably with Velcro.
@superkikim4916
@superkikim4916 Жыл бұрын
@@kairon156 Immersed has mixed reality. Works ok. Just not the best with the single cam ln the pico 4. Note it has color and is composing with both eyes. It's just weird if you look at your hands or your phone and it doesn't really allow to watch your phone for example. Colors are weird and the resolution is too bad. But this is still ok to use to see your environment while working on the virtual desktop. Regarding other avatars, Immersed has public rooms you can join. In that mode, you can see other people's avatars while working, and you can hear conversations (and participate) if people are note muted. As per the power pack I wouldn't scratch it to the helmet. I'd rather put it in a waistbag or a side pocket. I have a 20k mAh power bank that would be perfect for that

Great video! Let me share some of my personal experiences on this as well, in case it helps. I've been using Immersed VR for the last four months as my fulltime development environment (I'm a software engineer, touch typist). I have 3 virtual monitors (my two side ones I set to 1440x900 for web research and Teams/Outlook), and my main one is set 1920x1080. And, barring the occasional glitches you mention in your video, Immersed has actually been quite useful for me. I'm able to attend Teams meetings (using the virtual cam), audio is a bit delayed but I connect directly via bluetooth to the laptop to prevent these delays. I develop in Visual Studio and IntelliJ with no problems. Outlook, Word, etc work without problems. It truly feels like attaching extra monitors to your laptop while sitting in some exotic environment (like deep in Space, or a Cave, or a Space Station, or a Coffee House). The only thing I'm not liking is that I am limited to being within a few feet of my laptop because my bluetooth keyboard and mouse don't work well with the Oculus quest (special keys don't pass through, such as the Windows key and some function keys, some of which I need in my IDEs), so I must connect directly via bluetooth to the laptop. Regardless of these small drawbacks, it is a very useful environment for software developers ASSUMING you are a touch typist. I agree with your comments you made about Immersed, where it is a little glitchy here and there, but overall it is quite useable. As an aside, in Immersed, I've also made use of their "co-work" feature, where you can go to any of the environments and work alongside random other users. I've met some interesting people using this feature, including some Immersed developers. I tried Workrooms, but I agree with everything you said about it. I've been unable to be productive in it yet. Plus, the only useful environment is an "Office" environment. Who wants to be in an Office environment when you could be somewhere exotic like a beach or on top of a mountain or underwater? I've also tried vSpatial, and even though I simply loved the basketball hoop tool, I didn't care much for the environment -- it requires learning a totally different way of doing work --, and constant need for the controllers. Yes it was a clean environment, but I found that the learning curve is a bit too much for somebody who has to juggle many windows and apps. Side note: independent of the software you use above, I would strongly recommend you get a better strap with battery and face shield for your Oculus quest to make your long work hours be less stressful on your face! I hope these help!

Thanks! Interesting to hear all of that - I have been using the Quest 2 with Immersed, and have found the same issues with the keyboard and mouse connected directly to the headset, and my PC is not located where I can work (by a racing sim rig) so this was vital. Immersed released for the PICO 4 in beta, and although it doesn't have Passthrough for the keyboard or tracked keyboard options, the image quality when using a 1920 x 1080 screen in immersed, is about the same as when I was supersampling/set to 3840 x 2160 with the quest 2. This means I can run it off a lower spec PC with the same visual quality. I have a 15m active usb cable, so might use that and put my keyboard and mouse into that so I can use them better than connected to the headset. I use the KIWI battery strap for the Quest 2 which is super comfy 👍 thanks for the tips. Check out my later video - it's a brief update following this one, thanks again

wondering form witch setup you came, when now using 1920x1080 on your main-screen in immersed an happy with that i think its an great upgrade for people with laptop, and 1080p resolution or even less.. when you now have it a) in bigger b) more far away (about 2-3m focus-distance in VR) compared to the 50-60cm on the laptop - so easier for eyes past 45 year-old people ;) c) 2 or 3 monitors instead of only one BUT: when you come from an descent monitor-setup - for example a 3440x1440p or 3840x2160p Single-Screen-setup, it feels for me like a downgrade.. and iam not only referring to the 2160x2160 Headset-Resolution compared to 3840x2160... its more: let me explane it feels for me a little bit like a step back.. i was using dual-Monitor (and at some time tripple-Monitor) Setup for 25 years for me, it was a step up, going from 2 monitors to one monitor with high resolution more freedom in scaling your windows, not so much headturning anymore, not working with your head turned to the side,... it looks always very impressive when you can have 5 windows in VR or even more in "vSpatial" but vSpatial showed it clearly for me: you do not want to work with a 180° workspace... thats not possible.. so you are "scroling" the windows right to left, left to right.... its like virtual desktops on windows: Windwos-key + arrow-keys for me its better to stack 2 virtual montiors above each other, so the head does not have to turn left to right but only slightly up and down if there is a third monitor, than only for unimprotant things, like teams where maybe once in an hour i have to look at i think - in some years - when headset resolutions go up significantly, we will see the same thing as in real world... people trading there 2 or 3 monitor-setups for a 1-monitor-setup with high resolution in the moment many monitors in VR is "cool", but also necessary, because of the still (too) low resolution of the headsets.. you have to use more monitors, spread them out wide, so you can benefit form more pixels.. the quest2 with immersed was for me on kind of border, where i could say: ok, for 2h.. but.. the resolution.. you have to be a vr-enthusiast to do that for real the pico4 with the better E2EC makes it for me much more a thing, that i say: yea.. i can imagine to use it much more often.. i use the Pico4 without facegasket.. so maximal close to the lenses, highest FOV and i can still see parts of the real world around me, what allows me to stay even longer in VR still iam looking forward to resolutions like 2560x2560 or 2880x2880 ... i think text, desktop, etc.. would benefit a lot from that i also hope for better colors.. head 9 HEadsets in the last 6 years.. and: non of them i would say: yes, i can use it to edit a video or yes, i can use it to edit fotos..

Awesome-hope you like your Quest 3 when you get it. Immersed you can use passthrough to see your keyboard, or passthrough portals to see other things (you can place the portals where you want them), or you can use passthrough everything but still see your virtual monitors. You can do passthrough keyboard area in Meta Horizon Workrooms (which I think is better than immersed's keyboard passthrough as its a really neat rectangle on the desk), I haven't tried Workrooms for a while though and can't remember a passthrough ability for the whole environment whilst seeing your monitors. I'm pretty sure virtual desktop has a passthrough environment, but I've not looked to use passthrough in virtual desktop for a while, would be the best option for flat screen gaming out of the 3 apps though 👍

I've been experimenting with Meta Remote Desktop. I like that I can have local browser windows open at the same time, but I really like that |Virtual |Desktop controls the mouse cursor and forwards audio. So much of the Immersed app has improved. I hope that @Day Dreamer VR has done an "update" video to show the amazing changes that the team at Immersed has made. I LOVE working in VR on their app. I mean, not even JUST working, but I even hop on to Immersed on the weekends for consumption. There's just something about having your phone in VR as a huge screen next to your main monitor, then having a monitor on top of that to play videos, while you setup a monitor to the right of your main monitor for chats like Discord or Messenger, etc. It's a really great experience at the moment and a lot of issues have been resolved. I personally can't wait until they get DRS supported in app for the Quest 2 v55 update. DRS is going to make the on screen text EVEN CLEARER than it is now. I was using a Quest 2, but I now use the PICO 4 with Immersed, and it's working really well 👍

Does immersed require vr ready pc?
@DayDreamerVR
@DayDreamerVR 4 ай бұрын
It doesn't which is the amazing thing about it! It just passes the monitor feed across. It does need slightly more power than running a straight forward physical monitor, but it your PC can run multiple monitors, then it will likely work with Immersed 👍

i tried immersed, meta horizon and virtual desktop. Vd is much better for gaming mostly gave me a 72 fps. Other app's fps performance is teribble.

Totally agree, it isn't really possible in immersed or workrooms. Immersed does show low latency, but it just cannot cope with a game stream for some reason. Steam VR could be another good option to then view your desktop/game 👍

Definitely, that's my conclusion in and from the video, I've been trying to use it on and off but keep coming across a number of issues, it's a great app, the best I have found, hopefully I'll be able to get past the issues, hope you liked the video 👍

What does your latency show as in the settings menu? I take it your pc is connected via ethernet? Could be worth going on the immersed discord as that lag is not normal. Hope you get it sorted 👍

too bad immersed vr has such a bad pricing model, if you could just buy it instead of having a subscription then it would certanly be the number one, but till that desktop+, vd mobile, vd desktop, whirlgig or the overlays are good enough

You can use it for free with 3 screens. If you then use it for a small amount of time on consecutive days then you get the 5 screens for free. They have had options previously to buy the pro (5 screen) level, and even had it at one point if you bought their Visor headset. Most options are now subscription though unless you are happy with the free access

@@DayDreamerVR my issue is rather the low resolution of the screens, usually I set my screens to 8k or even 16k when using them in VR. The free version offers you 1080p, which is a bad joke for VR screens. Not sure if you unlock resolutions by usuage too, and not even the pro supports 8k/16k so it already is outperformed image quality wise. 4k would be the minimum which is limited to the pro version

@@DasJev all I would say is that it is worth working out how many pixels are in your view on a screen in VR. I did calculate it a while ago (sad I know) and I can't remember if that was comparing to the Q2 or PICO 4, but a 32 inch monitor in VR was slightly lower than 1920x1080 due to the resolution of the vr headset. Even a 4k vr headset is 4k for the whole of your view in one eye, so a monitor taking up part of that space will be less than 4k. Using higher resolutions will help slightly with aliasing/clarity, however the limits are currently the resolution of the vr headset, and not the resolutions in immersed. I think higher resolutions are included in their pro though, which you get access to free with consecutive days usage (over 15 mins per day). Their model does keep changing and isn't very clear which doesn't help

@@DayDreamerVR instead of calculating I would highly recommend to just try it. Text/Lines/UI/Images are a lot clearer and havr less/no shimmering left with high res settings. You can't just calculate based on headset res as you work with two overlaying rasters that are not congruent plus one is distorded which alone already requires additional source resolution for distortion correction. 1080p is maybe good enough for 720p VR Devices, but not for something like a pico, there 8k still does wonders and should be the default imo

@@DasJev I found 4k useful with the Q2, but not with the PICO 4. I wouldn't run multiple monitors at 8k. I have found that running 8k or more brought barely any improvement with a 4k per eye headset, and definitely not worth it considering the extra performance required to run it. I find 4k vr headset clear enough, and still won't be looking to use 8k for multiple monitors with it. This is unlikely to be a solution for you (pro has max of 4k per eye) . Hope you manage to find something else 👍

@@zenobiooibonez5097 you could setup the mini pc to launch something like Parsec on initial boot, then connect with you phone to parsec to use it as a monitor. I don't know if the Quest 3 will connect whilst parsec is connected though 👍
