Ranveer Singh aka Muraad represents the new generation who wants to chase their dream and that's how it should be. But a father is a father they want their children to choose a simple life to avoid getting hurt or heartbroken chasing their dream in life. That's what Vijay Raaz is trying to portray here. What a gem of an actor he is.

Sameer jee brillant insight. I have been through a hell of my own and had to take multitude of therapies to undo conditioning... but when i look back, i realize my parents couldn't relate to me bcos they didn't know that there was a better choice or possibility. I have not seen gully boy, only this video... but get perspective that for Vijay Raaz as a father, he can't understand how important it is for Ranveer that he has 4 L likes for a song... and it means a world to him and the self expression and the self love he has... but Vijay Raaz cannot relate to that world... Not every parent is out to negatively condition their children, but require keener perception to get their children's world...and what makes them come alive. Wow... simply loved this...i will not change my dreams to fit my reality. I will change my reality to realize my dreams... well said

Such great acting by Vijay Raj. Its probably the only scene where we start to understand the reason for Murad's father's actions. Up until now, we only saw him as constantly hindering Murad in achieving his dreams and we as the audience, much like Murad, developed a sense of hostility towards him. But, its the emotion captured in the this scene that shows Murad's father to be someone who perhaps had dreams like Murad - who wanted to do something for himself than serve others but faced so many hardships in the way that he was forced to turn to life as a servant. And that's where we start to empathise with him - he didn't want Murad to pursue music because he was shielding him from the various hardships that he himself possibly faced. What the movie really showcases is the deep rooted love within families especially those coming from a worse-off background as all they really want is for each other to do the best in an unfair and grim capitalistic society.

Here is the thing, before the movie even started production there was hype around it for years. Imagine the number of top class A list actors that were dying to play this role. But you can clearly see that Vijay Raaz's casting was PERFECTION. Spot fucking on. Is he even acting here or is he actually the father of Murad? Too damn incredible.
