Bonita Oliver and Eli Berman opening the 2023 Snug Harbor Dance Festival in Staten Island, NY with Oliver's work-in-progress "Trans Water Stories" on 9/23/23. Oliver leads the audience into the final scene of the performance using the latest prototype of Berman's homemade "vocal feedback pipe." This version of Berman's instrument is designed in the likeness of the Koakun-Klun, a Cape Verdean sea monster. The monster pulses with acoustic feedback from an embedded microphone and speaker, spitting out fragments of live voices. Berman sings Rakhamana, a Jewish prayer for Yom Kippur, through homemade transducer speakers made of metal pipes and tape.
