Absolutely. I personally thought Doo would have been the last to join the factory turbo 2strokes when they finally came. I thought it would be Polaris, followed closely by Cat and i thought Doo would do something different like a centrifugal supercharger.

Agreed. I’m a Polaris guy myself but they always seem to be chasing ski-doo. BRP is a leader with technology and being first to market.

I’m guessing there will be a horsepower enriched sea level motor option in the future for the trail/crossover sleds. I’d guess 185-200hp With this much motor investment they will need to spread it over a larger demographic than just high altitude to pay for the tech. -AJ
@dylandavies36344 жыл бұрын
That's what I was thinking, no way they spend that much in R&D and not have this motor in every model. Looking forward to seeing it in the trail application, hopefully big power!

The great thing about turbo motors is it is very cheap and easy to make more power. New waste gate/blow off valve springs, turn up the boost like that or an electronic controller and you can probably get 250-270 out of this factory setup without swapping turbochargers.

You're not going to be gaining anything at sea level with a 850 turbo, this engine was designed for the mountains. You have 165 hp at sea level and 165 hp up in the mountains. If going fast is your only concern for a trail sled, get a Yamaha.
@calebm.56984 жыл бұрын
Will S it’s very likely given how much skidoo has spent on this engine that a ~200hp sea level sled using this motor will arrive in the next couple years

@snowtraxtv what the difference between a aftermarket turbo and stock ?
@JJ_MTB_154 жыл бұрын
Awesome sled and the engineering is impressive. One thing that makes me scratch my head is that they would relieve the crankshaft on a turbo, you would think you would want a beefier crankshaft. That might be an issue down the road, all to save weight.
@mikeskidmore67544 жыл бұрын
Well that's nice .. How long will it take the aftermarket to tune it for an extra 40 HP ? The biggest advantage is that it is still light ..

@@TheSupergremlins Cat is taking orders for 2021 sleds and you can get an Alpha 1 for as cheap as $13,250 this is ungodly expensive especially for a sled where you'll on see the performance benefits at super high elevation. If you're around 5000 feet the power differential between NA and turbo will be negligible.

pretty neat im not a two smoke guy but this is neat. hope they do something with power it seems if they were targeting making the same power at all altitudes they would've made it at least 180hp. throttle response on the turbo sled? think they could've made the 4tec better in that department. this sled will kill that platform. the cat/Yamaha sleds already make more power and reliably. eh

I would get the Speedwerx kit installed instead 225 horsepower instead. I don’t really know lots about skidoo I’m not really a mountain rider thought I never drove a snowmobile over 2000 feet of elevation. Like they don’t have after market kits for theses machine. Don’t get me wrong it awesome, but don’t really see the point

According to BRP, the 850 was designed from the start to have a turbo at some point. So now you have a motor made to handle the in-house designed and built turbo. That SHOULD inherently equal a good level of reliability and without the constant tuning of aftermarket turbos. The turbo is also lighter than aftermarket models and has a 1 year warranty which isn't long, but it's something.

How many lbs of boost? Pump gas... probably only 3psi
@peterlindsay28694 жыл бұрын
That’s OK for those mountain guys. But what about us guys that are flatland riders. Not going to help us very much for more horsepower. I’m in northern Manitoba Canada we get a crap ton of snow. More horsepower would be great up here. Not sure this machine would do us any good. My buddy has an 850 and honestly doesn’t impress me very much. My old Yamaha 120 hp takes it up till about 85 miles an hour. We’re both really aggressive riders too. And my 1100 turbo cat there’s no comparison. That thing walks all over his 850. They need this thing to produce 40 more horsepower no matter where they are. This thing needs to be pumping out close to 200 hp out of the box at sea level then it be impressive. But be awesome for the mountains.
@peterlindsay28694 жыл бұрын
I guess what I’m saying is I need a reason to go back to two strokes. Wait doesn’t really matter much up here. We’re not climbing hills we’re just playing in really deep stuff. Four Stroke will climb out of anything. And has the horse power to do it. I need a two-stroke that has the horsepower. Out of the box. Shouldn’t have to put a bunch of aftermarket crap on my machine and make it less reliable.
