It's nice to see Pete Best in an interview without some shmuck badgering him with personal questions like "Durrhurrhurr, how did it feel when you got kicked out of the band?" or "Does it make you sad or angry how successful they got"? This interview is well-produced, well-spoken, it doesn't pry, and it is free of any cringe or embarrassment from what I can see

What people have got to realise, in early 1960s Liverpool it was common custom to spin in a 360 degree circle before replying to someone else, particularly during an argument. Some conversations were non-stop twirling.

I totally enjoyed this interview, especially the ending where he talks about how good they got playing so many hours a night, wish I could of seen them when they came back to Liverpool with all that energy, Pete seems like a cool guy, and I think he got a raw deal, but bands dump people all the time, but it makes you wonder how the Beatles music would of developed if Pete was in the band the whole time, but with that said, I love Ringo, and can't imagine the Beatles career with anyone but him

@@generalpatzer6893 he was certainly established before Pete got his kit for Christmas. Who was the best drummer in Liverpool is obviously subjective, but many cite Johnny Hutch from the Big Three as the best. Not sure if they were ever as popular as Rory, Gerry or the Beatles.

Here's what a contemporary drummer of Pete's said when he was asked in an interview what he thought of Pete's drumming: *"He was a genius. You could sit Pete Best on a drum kit and ask him to play for 19 hours and he'd put his head down and do it. He'd drum like a dream with real style and stamina all night long, and that really was The Beatles' sound, forget the guitars. At their Decca audition, Pete had so much power that the engineers didn't know how to record him. That’s why so many Merseyside discs are icky, all thin and weedy, because so few engineers knew how to do it. I was amazed when The Beatles replaced Pete. I even thought about learning guitar so he could be the drummer in my band. John, Paul and George didn't hate Pete Best, but they didn't want to be outshone by their drummer. Ringo was a good drummer but he was more ordinary."* -- Chris Curtis, drummer for The Searchers, a great Liverpool band who scored a 1964 Top 3 Hit in the US charts with their classic, "Love Potion # 9". Chris saw Pete Best play many times in both Hamburg and Liverpool during Pete's two years as The Beatles' drummer.

If Pete was good at playing drums back then, how many local BANDS in Liverpool sought after his talent immediately after Pete's sacking?
@Cosmo-Kramer
@Cosmo-Kramer Жыл бұрын
@@abjoseck9548 A lot did. And after the initial shock wore off, Pete joined Lee Curtis & The All Stars. Soon the band became Pete Best & The All Stars. Pete had his own band until he quit the biz in 1968, lasting nearly as long as The Beatles did (albeit, not even remotely close to their level of success).

Bad luck? Pete got married and made a stable family with no drama and then got millions for his songs. The rest of the Beatles ran into financial issues of some kind, three had fidelity issues, and two of them ended up dead before 60. Even Paul didn't get to keep Linda [RIP to her btw] So, who's really got the bad luck then?

There was definite probability in that, but that said, it's one of those "what if's" of history. In every success story, although many will deny it with ego claiming it was all them -the "hard work" myth easily disproven as a logical fallacy. Plenty have put in the work AND have talent, but failed to gain momentum or enjoy the phenomenal success or longevity of The Beatles.

“By then (the first EMI session with George Martin) we were pretty sick of Pete Best because he was a lousy drummer. He never improved, you know? And there was always this myth being built up over the years that he was great, and Paul was jealous of him because he was pretty and all that crap. The reason he got in the group in the first place was because the only way we could get to Hamburg, we had to have a drummer. And we knew this guy who was living at his mother’s house, it had a club in it, and we just grabbed him, auditioned him, and he could keep one beat going for long enough, so we took him to Germany. But we were always gonna dump him when we could find a decent drummer.” - John Lennon
