None of what you say makes sense. 1 - RN Merlin’s are not capable of in-flight refuelling. 2 - V-22’s are USAF operated aircraft, so not involved with British forces often and aren’t often used as tankers either. 3 - The power plant of the carrier has no bearing on the capability of the aircraft as they have separate fuel stores.

@@aleccap5946 the mileage debate is a bit like the food debate which applies to nuclear powered ships. The catapults is a reasonable question as it does limit fixed wing aircraft options payloads etc. When a nuclear powered ship is hit and sunk it leaves a hell of a lot more mess than a fossil fuelled ship maybe in the not too distant future hydrogen maybe powering these beasts as 1 litre of hydrogen gives 3 times the range of diesel I’ve read and the transformation of the engines is nowhere near as complex as having a reactor on board. Technologies are changing and I think nuclear is fine for subs as their are far more stealthy. As for Iceland shopping I think that in tough times there are thought measures but your average Matelot will soon be grumbling about the limited options of fresh produce being coupled up on constant alert - food and its quality are seriously underestimated from a moral point of view. Reroute fitting catapults of some description I suspect will come when the major refit is due assuming the axis powers don’t sink her in the Far East 😐
