پاکستان کے شمال میں قراقرم کے پہاڑی سلسلے میں، صدیوں تک شمشال کی واخی خواتین مویشی بان راج کرتی رہی ہیں۔
کئی نسلوں سے جاری اس سفر میں وہ اپنے ہزاروں جانوروں کے ہمراہ، ہزاروں فٹ کی بلندی پر واقع سرسبز چراگاہوں تک پہنچتیں۔
ان کی آمدنی نے صحت، تعلیم، حتی کہ شمشال کی پہلی سڑک کی تعمیر میں مدد کی۔ ان مویشی بان خواتین کی محنت نے ان کی کمیونٹی کی زندگی بدل دی۔
آج جب ان کا منفرد طرزِ زندگی ختم ہو رہا ہے، بی بی سی کی ٹیم نے ان خواتین کے ہمراہ دوردراز چراگاہوں کا سفر کیا، اور ان سے اُس جگہ اور ہنرمندی کے بارے میں جانا جو ان کی کامیابی کی وجہ بنی ۔

I am from Gilgit shina region . Our grand parents generation were all like this . They sacrifice their whole lives to get education for new generations. My grand father was among it . He raised a very educated family from these livestocks . Now we have doctors , engineers , officers in our family . Kudos to our hardworking grand parents ❤❤❤

Love immense and reverence for you and your grand parents. This life was real, honest and sacrificing. Keep family traditions going with more youth from younger progeny taking the path of livestock and sheep rearing. I appreciate these shepherdess women. They are women with steel nerves and iron frame. How strong and healthy they are is simply unimaginable. Mashallah. Before 47 this entire state was one unit including Indian administered Jammu and Kashmir, Azad Kashmir Ladakh, Gilgit baltistan. My father used to tell me about the students of Gilgit baltistan studying in S. P. College of Srinagar with him before 1947. He was a professor of English and died in 1993. I am a physician specialist by profession and live in Kashmir valleys southern area.

Loved working on this amazing project on the last Wakhi Shepherdesses of Hunza for BBC. I am thankful to all the Shepherdesses (Afroz Numa, Bano Begum, Thai Bibi, Sakina Bano, Nor Begum and Pak Daman) for expressing themselves, sharing their stories and travelling with us from Shimshal village to the Pamir plateau. These people are true ambassadors of the Wakhi heritage and Culture. I am thankful to BBC especially Farhat Javed for reaching out and working on such an important story as the Wakhi language and Culture is already declared endangered by UNESCO. This documentary truly preserves the old traditions, culture, norms and values of the Shimshali people for the coming generations as no new generation is interested in practising it further and unfortunately it is the end of Wakhi heritage. I am blown by seeing the response of people after watching it, I am so glad that I was able to work on such an important story and got successful in creating an impact!

In central Hunza, this tradition is long gone. My grandma used to tell us about her journeys like these.
