Never understood how some have bad things to say about Jim Lampley. He seems like a good guy. Well spoken.
@SinisterSkyline
@SinisterSkyline 8 жыл бұрын
Well, there is an online smear campaign on him, so it's really not hard at all to get roped into hating him.
@mcsmoothstyle
@mcsmoothstyle 8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the some background information about Jim. I want to say that i cannot condone for everything that he has done, because I don't know of everything he has done. But aside from perhaps inept referees or bogus sanctioning bodies, I never recall any remarks that he said that was personally insulting. I guess I will have to learn more about him to see what the argument is, it seems that he has offended people. I always thought that he does a good job in my opinion to describe people and their actions objectively.
@SinisterSkyline
@SinisterSkyline 8 жыл бұрын
mcsmoothstyle The argument is that he hates black fighters, literally. There's a channel called Dontae's boxing nation, which is pretty cool, except for the fact that his M.O. is to drum up donations by pretending to be about black pride in various rant videos, and he's found it's easy to say there's something called "The coincidental list", and that's a list of black fighters that Lampley has criticized. Problem is that it's fairly obvious he criticizes fighters that aren't aligned with HBO, 'cause he was full of praise for Mayweather until he went to SHOWTIME. And some people have even took it further than that and said he's a women beater and a drug addict, even though I couldn't find any articles about that except a video of someone claiming he is.
@mcsmoothstyle
@mcsmoothstyle 8 жыл бұрын
Sinister, I like how you give credit to Dontae's video. I have seen them and they are informative and cool. I also like how you are standing up for what you believe in if you believe Jim is not racist. I personally don't know, but the man works with so many people of so many backgrounds and races that it hard for me to see him racist as opposed to him actually have friendships with the ones the mentioned. One of my most admirable comments of any boxing commentator was when he Jim said in round 10 of the Bowe-Holyfeild first fight, "Look at Holyfeild! What a warrior!". I give you a lot of credit for standing for Jim. If he is in fact not a racist and the good man that he appears to be... I find these allegations very insulting to him and any good will he had towards people of African ethnicity.
@SinisterSkyline
@SinisterSkyline 8 жыл бұрын
mcsmoothstyle Well, I don't think he hates black fighters, that's all. He could still be just a run of the mil asshole for all I know, really. But, I am a true boxing nerd, and I remember watching old Floyd fights on HBO and Lampley really kissing his ass, against Mitchell he was saying stuff like "A right hand like thunder like only Mayweather Jr can throw" and "Mitchell is trying to outbox Mayweather on the outside, which is virtually impossible.", BUT when he went to SHOWTIME he started criticizing him very harshly, so, as I see it, it's just corporate rivalry. And, Donae's channel is brilliant for coverage of sparring and training, but he does have some very palpable racial prejudices - which is fine given his age and that he's a black man in the US; it'd be impossible for him not to, honestly. The most sad example I remember was when Canelo fought Kirkland, the preview video was like an 11 minute video of how Kirkland had a chance, but in the post-fight he just trashed Canelo's victory and even turned on Kirkland and dissed him fairly badly as well. Anyway, this is fairly inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. Cheers. It's nice to find composed people online for a change.

Juan Diaz My brother Juan, I caught that as well, most people when racism is mentioned it's about blacks and hispanics,Asians especially south east Asians are given a pass helping them to establish homes and businesses after coming here from Viet Nam ,when was the last time you had a donut from a Hispanic or Black owned business? To include Asians in the racism issue is just not real,this includes Koreans,Chinese,Japanese at this time, I say that becuase these people back in the day were treated poorly,internment camps during WW2 etc
