I have no problems with boats built in China and other places in the Orient, or Turkey etc...but it's nice to see a boat built in the UK or the USA. I'll be watching for the first boat trials. Thanks for the video. Well done.

I think moving to an electric drive using solar and diesel generators is the way to go. If you want to cruise at a slow six knots on solar great. If you want to cruise at 10 knots let the generators fire up. The important part is having the enough enough fuel to run the generators nonstop for three to four weeks for a longer Pacific passage.

6.5m beam on this should make it quite comfortable on longer journey's. The aluminium hull is the right choice.

I love the sharp bow design. Cutting through instead of pushing through must be significantly more efficient than older boats. Catamarans are very good at this anyway although I do see a difference in some sailing cats. Some bows get fat just aft and some stay slowly opening up wider with a more gradual rate. This means less fuel needed to go forward because of less water being pushed aside. This makes a huge difference on a 3000 mile journey. I would love to see a video on Circa Marine 24 new boat. Also I would love to see a video with the designer of the Sharrow propeller. This new prop is state of the art anticavitation design that is looking to be SIGNIFICANTLY more efficient than traditional props. It looks to be the most real advancement of propeller design on non military vessels in 100 years. Burning 15 to 20% less fuel because you can go at full cruising speed at 500 to 700 rpm less is really cool. This could instantly change any vessels capability simply by bolting the new prop on. It excites me, thinking about all the dream boats I love cruising faster, lower rpms and burning less fuel. Cool stuff.

This is an excellent interview and a look at a well throughout boat from the manufacturer's perspective. Good to see you are getting out to see the boats first hand, I'm sure it's not easy but it makes such a difference. I have been looking at the HH44/OC44 in the last six months with a particular interest in hybrid power and foot print. With prices of fuel being subject to all sorts of external influences and pricing, I believe it's important to have some options. I also agree with the point made that fully electric boats are a nice idea but well before their time at the moment. As was discussed and certainly will be the case, there are other options on the horizon and it would be good to see in the flexibility of the design that in say five years one could remove the diesel engines or add to them other options. Thanks for a very good video and I look forward to seeing more from Archipelago and you, P

So could this 47 catamaran be fitted with twin electric inboard motors, each with their own battery packs, with small backup diesel electric generators, that can recharge the battery packs. Though the yacht fitted with solar electric panels and mini Vertical Axis Wind Turbines, plus under hull hydro-impellar generators too, all recharging the onboard battery packs, to provide electric power for both the electric motors/propellors, as well as the yacht electric navigation and communication systems, plus cabin electric systems too.

Is Archipelogo 47 already at sea? I would like to see videos of him navigating. I would like to know about your stability at sea. It would have some stabilization system something with the "Seakeeper" ?

@2:52 You mention that aluminum provides for more customization flexibility that a steel construction does not offer. Why is that?

It would be very difficult to utilize solar for a yacht intended to explore the northern climes. The angle of the sun in the sky reduces the solar intensity possible. It maybe be ok (depending on design and electrical needs), with diesel or diesel-electric backup, between 50 degrees North and South. You definitely would not want to go to Iceland. Remember, the electricity will be required for heating at night at that latitude.

Interesting and promising theres a similar sized product was produced in NZ a few years back . kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eLGJdciind7SiY0.html Again down under Greenline yatchs developed a hybrid drive system with solar on some of there monohulls. Its very useful in conservation areas or marinas and anchorages for getting in or out with greater control and in silence. Neel on their Leen trimaran trawler yatchs are using two 40kw motors in the outer hulls to be able to switch or augment or give redundancy to the central hulls direct drive diesel. Mechanically disconnecting an ICE motor allows it to be run at optimum performance and for optimum periods of time.. BYD blade cells are far safer than conventional Li based cells.. but better still is the cheaper more stable and less fussy Na based cells that are arriving this year from CATL. They can be completely discharged without damage and charged largely independently of most environmental temperatures. I think longer-term he might get asked about a forward sitting out cockpit and also the kite sail system has to be a no brainer option for a passage Maker as it saves fuel/power and gives you a emergency self rescue option. A well insulated hull will be vital for all latitudes and seasons use... Otherwise you will be battling condensation and using lager amounts of energy heating and cooling the boat. This is one of the key points in Silent Yatchs design but should be fundamental to any cruising or live aboard vessel. Though energy intensive to produce initially Al is highly recyclable and repairable. So these vessels should look forward to a long service life and be adaptable. Greater efficiencies may be achievable using sharrow type props ...though at the moment they are prohibitively expensive. The other idea is the Italian Deepspeed external driven water jet pods running from a generator. You might want to put this guy in touch with these Dutch brothers featured in this hybrid retrofit of a 17tonne classic Al and wood Monohull.. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pd2dY91ercrYYKs.html The other item he might want to consider is using hybrid PVT photo voltaic thermal liquid cooled panels makes them far more efficient and productive in bright hot conditions and also extends the panels life massively. Not only does the PV Output get boosted but you can recover a lot of the waste heat that otherwise damages the PV component of the panel.
