Please tell me what I am missing here. Why would they do Bad Company when it was just released for Atlantic 75th. Could it really be that much better? I don’t think so. Why not do titles that haven’t been done instead of the same old ones over and over again

No disrespect to Patrick, but Rhino's been saying "We're working on the shipping and packaging problems" and "We are frustrated too and are trying to fix it" for months and months. Trying to do something and actually doing something is two different things. If the company Rhino employs doing shipping is bad, go somewhere else. Not rocket science.

My latest purchase in this series (Van Morrison) arrived in a less than sturdy mailer. Massive ding to one of the corners as a result. Surely it’s more cost effective to acquire better packaging materials than have to deal with all the many requests for replacement copies they must receive? Overall, this has been a great series, but you always hold your breath each time you order in the hope the record arrives unscathed!

The Bad Co is curious given the Atlantic 75th release. Anything YES is a good choice.
@VQR42027 күн бұрын
The Bad Co would have made far more sense as an early RHF title before the 45 released. I imagine some who bought the 45 already might not be inclined to double dip for a 33. That Yes album isn't one I've heard before today, but I'm gonna get it. Just the 20 min track on side 1, plus enjoying what I've heard on streaming, is a great sign I'll love that release. Anytime I see an album with 10-20 min tracks, I have to try the album. 😂

Thanks so much for the shout-out and kind words, Steve and Patrick! Writing notes for a favorite record from a favorite band is the thrill of a lifetime, and I hope everyone enjoys this terrific new edition of 'Relayer.' One point of clarification @Steve: the quote about listening in the best possible way comes directly from Patrick Moraz, who I spoke with for several hours in research/prep for these notes. He is so proud of this record that his enthusiasm is infectious--I've listened to 'Relayer' endlessly since our talk. Super nice guy and an amazing talent. He put the phone next to an electric piano during our chat and started improvising on the intro to "Sound Chaser" which was WILD!

@@scottwheeler2679 we don’t unless we are told. Many records are made from copy tapes even within country of origin. And in reality nobody would hear the difference.
@scottwheeler267924 күн бұрын
@@mazzysmusic analog tape copies are never perfectly audibly transparent. anytime a reel to reel deck either plays or records it is subject to wow and flutter and azimuth misalignment. Anytime one records on analog tape there is added audible noise. With a tape transfer you have two sources of wow and flutter and potential azimuth misalignment with the two decks being used as well as the added tape noise. Is it a noticeable difference? Is it a big difference? That will vary from transfer to transfer. differences in mastering will likely have bigger impact. If I had my way all of these audiophile reissues would start with high res digital transfers from the original master tapes or best existing source using the Plangent process which not only corrects wow and flutter from the transfer but goes back and corrects wow and flutter on the original recording. It gives us a digital file that is better than the original recording.

Shipping is ridiculous!! I order immediately when these are posted on Rhino’s website and get very late numbers in the series. And it takes forever for it to ship. I watch others post videos on KZfaq about receiving their albums already-while mine haven’t even shipped yet. It almost seems like the fulfillment company ships west coast first and then works its way east (I’m on the east coast.). No one else in the business has such poor fulfillment and shipping.

I knew it was Relayer! It's awesome-my favorite YES album. I'm assuming that AP discarded Relayer for the 75th series because "Gates of Delirium" would take up like 3 sides in a 45 rpm format. So, I was very hopeful that Rhino HIFI would do it. Thank you very much, Rhino. I have a Porky Prime cut in NM condition, but I always thought it could sound better, so I'm looking forward to hearing what Kevin did. Now, regarding the Bad Company record: it's not my cup of tea, but I believe fans of this album should be really happy to have what could probably be the ultimate 33 rpm version of it. Next, please give us some Deep Purple and more Black Sabbath. I love this series!

i'd like to ask Patrick - many of the Rhino reissues i have heard sound great, many original album pressings are supposed to sound the best but if Rhino can just smooth off the rough edges and improve the sound on modern playback systems from many of them after all this time then it would be a great attraction for those of us who own the original albums and newcomers on the vinyl scene, to spend money on these albums we need more of a a great incentive to do so, including shipping, a very important part of the deal!

@VQR42026 күн бұрын
Is there any particular reason the US copy tape was used for Relayer? If it's an issue of the original tape being able to go to the US, Rhino might want to look into using a mastering house in Europe. SCM at Emil Berliner would be an excellent candidate, given her excellent reputation for cutting for DG and also apprenticing under KG. Jimmy Page might be convinced to let LZ be on RHF if he personally could carry over the tapes to her. :p I'm all in on Relayer still, since I love prog yet have never heard that album before today. What I've heard on Qobuz, plus the assurance Rhino customer service has gotten better, made me pull the trigger.

I’m a sucker for Yes reissues, but I’m a little confused about a high fidelity Relayer. I’ve always considered that recording to be not up to par, and I assumed it was the way it was recorded, using their live board for tracking in Squires untested home studio. The Steve Wilson remix fixed some of the issues, but the mid frequency cluster of poor sound still stacks up once all the instruments come in. I’m aware that I’m in the minority of opinion on this. If Rhino managed to get high fidelity out of that original master tape (copy, whatever) I will gladly fork over my $. That will be fantastic news!

Had a feeling "Bad Co" would be one of the choices. Not a bad track on that album for me. Love the original. I totally agree Steve, that Simon's Ludwig's, much like Bonzo's Ludwig's, drive everything! Both drummers had very distinctive styles, but equally were just as different. Very interesting to hear that Nevison probably copied Bonham's mic set up? Although used Neuman's 87's condensers instead of Shure's? Such an incredible live drum sound all the same.The quintessential Bad Co. drum sound. Big shout out to the late Ronnie Lane's (ex Faces) mobile recording unit.Built be Nevison himself. Responsible for so many other great albums as well. Do debut albums get released, much better than this? Maybe that is why, this particular album is receiving, the "Rhino treatment", to mark it's 50th anniversary? Hopefully we will see "Straight Shooter" get selected when it's 50th anniversary rolls around next year. Bravo! Great choice Patrick and Rhino on selecting "Bad Co". At 33. Which for me is still the way to go! In my opinion, just can't beat an original 33 1/3 original UK pressing of any Zeppelin, or Bad Co. album. 'Yes' was my brother's band. "Tales of Topographic Ocean" and "Yessongs" etc...Never got into them personally.Although I always took artistic inspiration from Roger Dean's amazing album covers. Simple answer they have to have at least a potential of 5000 customers willing to spend a bunch of money on an audio file record and they have to pick artist that have a base that possibly a small percentage of them would pay a bunch of money for a limited addition, classic LP. That’s the answer, it’s all about money my man and this is a hobby and music means a lot to a lot of people including myself and I’m willing to spend the big bucks for an audio file recording but I’m one out of 100 or 200 that would do that but I appreciate it and I’m an audio file and this is a hobby and a very expensive hobby but very enjoyable. We need a crowd sourced method to determine what we want you to do. I could also see Robert Plant’s principle of moments or fate of nations. What about the first few rush albums. Those need the KpG treatment. 2112, farewell to kings. What about smashing pumpkins? We have some good reissues…. But a true AAA of Gish/Siamese Dream would be great. What about STP - tiny music, STP - Four

So, they really weren't a brand new band. Paul and Simon were in Free together first, and Free was a hit band. If not for the loss of their guitar player, Bad Company may never have happened.

Great, don't have to bother about these then because of Atlantic 75. Those are available all over the world, which these one's are not.

And here's.............Bad Company (collective groan) lol. I already have the Atlantic 75th.

They have a vast collection to pull from and this is what they come up with ? Do better in picking titles and get your head out of your ass about the shipping issues people are still having !

I’d say this is Ho hum news. There seems to be the same retread bands if not albums from the desperate reissuers. When is someone going to do their homework and find some popular if not seminal albums that were recorded at the end of the analogue era. This by default would mean they are more recent albums even though that means at least 30 years old. 🤷

I can't listen to anything right now, my Fluance RT -84 has trouble spinning after i did a very stupid thing and put "sewing machine oil" on the spindle! Hopefully the electronics guy can fix it tomorrow! I just hope i didn't f**k it up permanently!😢

The Smiths? That'll sell around a hundred copies.

Hard pass on both titles for me I’m afraid! Bad Company is a strange choice given the recent AP 45 release. Hopefully the next release(s) will offer something more interesting. 🤞

Sorry, but until Rhino has a terrible shipping dept. They are slow in shipping, waited over 3 weeks before my order was shipped, and the packaging is 3rd class. I can't understand how crappy the packaging is. They need to copy Chad's packaging. I ship all my records using Whiplash packaging. It's expensive, but it's worth it, no corner dings or seam splits.
