Regarding the LGBTQ armband issue, you go to support your team, you show your support by showing your teams colours. What does LGBTQ have to do with football. It's is been used too criticize the Muslim religion and values, shame on the west for for forcing this issue.

I studied with Hassan A level back in 1996 in North Lincolnshire, hassan was subject to racism throughout his 2 years A level and so did the other 18 Omani students, 2 Egyptian and 1 Sudanese. It's impressive to see him in this position, his actual life experience in the UK has not scared him, neither he is making sweeping statements, nor he is having digs. I personally never rated talk sport because they always had a go a Eddie Hearn about Saudi money etc but respect for taking a chance to speak to Hasaan. Different culture, different law we stand for different things, and we don't have to agree or force change everyone like Tony Blair suggested- import western Values to Muslim world should be a target and we shouldn't rule out military. The issue is that who is casting judgement on Qatar is either have blood on their hand, killed millions, sold weapons to dictatorship, vetoed democracy, involved in proxy war etc Selective morality. I always felt that when you stand for something people hate you for not compromising... It drove people crazy for Qatar to hold their own and say No this is our religion, and this is our culture, but you are welcome. How many times We would hear .. these are our British value and these are our French value etc .. if you don't like it leave. Qatar says these are our values they got demonise.. Just for the record I lived and worked in both Qatar and UK .. ask any English person who lived there for their feedback .. never mind if you know you know.
@ianwilson8759
@ianwilson8759 Жыл бұрын
Your frequent grammatical errors give you away, you're not English. Secondly, I don't believe that in 1996, 20 odd foreign students would be subject to racism in any college in the UK. Lastly, Qatar is demonstrably and unarguably a homophobic and racist country.
@theepicpros9294
@theepicpros9294 Жыл бұрын
@@ianwilson8759 i did not say i was English, wasn't trying to blend in. I did not say we were subjected to racism at the college either, i was drawing on the timeline and our age. The point i am making is that everyone who is pointing fingers at Qatar has done worse than what they are criticizing Qatar for. So should those countries not look at themself first. The other point Ian, nations have different values, different culture, on what basis we should allow someone to dictate how someone else should live and what they believe in and what they should tolerate?

Racism is one of the most ridiculous human traits. We are one. No country is whiter than white especially not the country I was born & raised in. A large part of British history is for want of a better word embarrassing. Not one single culture is perfect in my opinion they portray control. The West are certainly in no position to impose supposed western values on any culture A World Cup is what it says on the tin and every country has the right to host a World Cup. The difficulty I had wasn’t with Qatar it was with the construction logistics in temperatures that are not conducive with our biological make up working for prolonged periods on consecutive days led to an unprecedented number of deaths in the history of hosting a World Cup

I wouldn't call "believing that gays are ill and should get therapy" part of any culture. I would call it discrimination. XXI century and still believing that there is something wrong with homosexuality is what is wrong. I don't know if wearing an armband is something against their "culture". I can imagine footballers wearing armbands against bullfighting in Spain and some people being outraged (ult-right mostly), but there will be a conversation about it. There was no possible conversation about it in the Arab world, they were banned, straightaway. If I were gay and living in an Arab country, I would be gutted. Guess what? There are homosexuals in Muslim countries. Allowing that dialogue would have meant respect for people, everyone.

He was clearly very articulate and well put together, and opposite of your stereotypical career activist types (picket signs & incoherently angry in your face protesting, etc) looks like. It’s a definite plus that he’s clearly western educated who’s trained in public speech. But he largely answered his questions with misdirection and non answer superlatives that sticks to his overall narrative he wanted to sell. I think at the end of the day, this is the punchline. 1.) Qatar wants to show the world we can be a global player. We have the means and willingness to host the WC. 2.) On social issues like anti-LGBQT stances, Arab world does not have a social consensus to accept that. We like money, our place in the modern world was gifted by that, we now have more than enough wealth to chart our future / self determination away from being a commodity provider and not get taken advantage by the western world like what happens to African nations with raw material goods. We are taking your “respect diversity” in viewpoints back to you western world and ask you just stfu about it.

Talk about how slaves in sweatshops the other side of the world make England shirts which the FA makes huge profits from. Talk about how in the euros final 10,000 England fans (with hardly any police) ransacked the event and attacked hundreds of paying fans. Talk about how England uses what should be illegal free labour from school and uni kids for the olympics & commonwealth games instead of paid professionals under contract ("volunteering" being good for your CV!). Talk about how train strikes and eco-zealots blocking transport would cause chaos in an English world cup. And how this all means that Linekar, the BBC and english critics should shut up!!

@Gillie-Monger sure if that's your position, all you need do is not engage with them or take up their hospitality. However once in the home of a host if you adopt a disrespectful stance or show aggression, you'll expect war. As an English man I could say 'every English man's home is his Castle' id defend my beliefs and inhabitants with what I felt necessary. Or we could draw example of our and the US government by invading a country without cause and start a war that way. To overcome what are fundamental religious beliefs is extremely difficult, its been tried many times in the past. To give even the smallest chance for change to take place then respectful dialogue must first be achieved. The problem with ideologies is that it can bread fanatical followers, they can come from both sides of an argument in which case violence breaks out. Who wants more disorder in this world

We don't have to see eye to eye, but we are all living on this planet together. We need to find the positive common ground. Especially if like he's saying, the Arab world wants to partake in the big stage. Me personally, im getting sick of the politics in sports. It causes division. I think so far, especially for the nations in the Arab world. This has been a positive thing, in a world of negitive events. Great job on the discussion. Was time well spent. Thanks guys! 👏👏👏
