These motor control exercises for Cervical Dystonia/Spasmodic Torticollis are for activating and strengthening the inhibited weaker muscles of your neck. They start very easy and progress in difficulty and are my recommendation for anyone with Spasmodic Torticollis to retrain the movements of rotation.

I have dystonia and 12 doctors never figured it out. Im finally getting better on my own. Thanks for sharing this for people dystonia doesn’t have to be a disability. Never give up no matter where you are you are still in charge of those nerves no matter how hard they scream. For anybody who’s too far gone to believe it, I was there with you six months ago very little movement left, senses, breathing, and heart all shutting down. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done but that just means you can do it too cuz im a quitter. Start with what you have, keep your nerves as calm as you can and push push push till you wiggle those toes!

Hello, what signs means dystonia? I have a hard times to move my neck and no one knows what happened to me and I'm still in search of my own, and found this video
@macintoshimann9892

@@mungunn5445 hi friend 🙋‍♂️ dystonia can actually be pretty mild in the beginning and may just cause pain that you can live with. For me I was totally unaware that it was turning my head and I didn’t realize I had lost use of some of the muscles in my neck. As in, my chiropractor would be saying “straighten out your neck” and I was angry like “duh, of course... already did.” It took about 3 years for me to actually have the abnormal movements and jerks take over my body. If you’re losing mobility in your neck, take it serious and find out what’s causing it. Somehow doctors told me I was fine all the way until my chin was stuck to my chest and then nobody knew what to do. Check how your neck and eyes are working together with a headlamp in a dark room, see if there’s any obvious problems with directing the light on top of your head. If you’re able, get to a neurologist that specializes in movement disorders. Keep in mind even these doctors can miss things, be responsible for your own health, that’s the best advice I have. Whatever the condition ends up being, don’t panic. I’ve learned it doesn’t matter what science says, we can recover from all sorts of stuff. Last year I could just barely walk with a cane, this year I’m super fit, just went backpacking in the mountains alone, getting ready to go hit the gym and weightlifting, and I even started dancing most days. Ohh and I definitely don’t use a cane anymore and my brain is learning to carry my head on top of my body again. That’s all to say that science is still in the dark with dystonia so don’t get worried if that diagnosis sticks around. Psychedelic therapy was a miracle for me and after finding a new channel called Hope For Dystonia I see they have worked for someone else who now takes on clients to guide them out. I’m sure I will be doing the same before long. That’s all to say, everything really will be more than okay!

@@matt-rl9fs my sympathies these symptoms are quite a lot. I could recommend an experienced chiropractor. In my experience some of them actually understand neurological symptoms very well. Like U say, other docs weren’t helpful in my experience. Healing the nervous system usually looks more like hiking the Appalachian trail than driving to doctors appointments anyway. I wish you the best in figuring out what’s going on and also that you start waking up to new miracles every day soon enough 👍

@@vickya346 hello 👋. Based of my experienced I tried every options of conventional medical treatments except the DBS surgery for my cervical dystonia or torticollis. I had low doses of 100 units of Botox toxin treatments injected around my neck but the outcome was nothing but terrible hell side effects so I would never reconsidered doing so this kind of procedure because it’s dangerous I had a side effects like a myositis effects all over of the limbs and difficulty swallowing so sounds getting worst instead of the getting the positive benefits. And the DBS is an option also but I don’t know if my health insurance will cover up the surgery nor any surgeries but I’m not either sure if I’m willing to do so because of the high risk of the brain surgery! We all know there’s still a lot of people dealing with worse health issues scenario perspectively so I don’t know what my other options as of now all I can do is keep fighting and have to deal with it this until miracle comes from within!

I've had CD for over 3 years now probably since I used to be a vegetarian for a long time and my B12 vitamin was extremely low. The doctors told me I should do botox injections in my neck to calm the nerves every 3 months but after a year they told me I had to do multiple brain scans before doing any injection which is really stupid imo. I haven't done any injections in 2 years now and I have been in pain this whole time. The only medicine I take is Clonazepam which is supposed to help with spasms. I work at a warehouse so every time I get home Im in really bad pain on my neck and its hard to move my neck so I have to lay down to my bed for a bit so it can calm down and then move on with my day. Exercise used to work but now I don't see any improvement. Also for some reason when I get excited or stressed it's getting worse, like I have this feeling on the back of my head that its going to start spasming even though it doesnt most of the time. The pain is mostly on my right side and my neck kinda drops down on my left shoulder and I have to keep it straight which leads to pain. I will try out these tips you mentioned and hope it can help.

You've described what I go through in a 'Storm'. No Doctor will try to help with Physiotherapy as taught is considered to be 'Cruel and Unusual Treatment'; of which I have to agree. In 1989 when the dysfunctions and seizures rose to the point of collapse, I fell asleep in traction; the only person the Physio's had ever seen this happen to, it was so relaxing. Light is dawning and I need some sleep as I dozed off in the wheel-chair again and woke up almost rigid again. Keep safe.

What exercises would you recommend for focal thoracic dystonia in the extension direction?
@focusrehab
@focusrehab Жыл бұрын
If your dystonia makes it difficult to return to neutral after turning towards your 'strong' side, try these two strategies: 1) move from your neutral towards your weaker/difficult side and back and NOT into your spasm or pattern, and 2) Stay with these Part One exercises for longer as they will be easier to control. Thank you!

Wow! I wish you were local. I live near Milwaukee. Yes, I've had CD for many years. When I am standing or sitting, my neck often pulls my face to my right, and I have a lot of difficulty turning it left or even getting it to center after it has been pulled right. (I can turn it fine right or left while lying down or inclined on inversion table.) As you can imagine, this pulling makes driving and many tasks difficult. If I lift anything of much weight, there goes my head to the right. Or even when I need to descend stairs (but not ascend). So which is my weak side? I'm going to try these exercises for sure (I've tried so many things), but I need more info to understand what is going on. I already have a same-size foam roller (turning the head is hard on it). Thanks. I so appreciate your insight and tips here.

I'm sorry you don't live in Oregon! I recommend taking some time on the roller making VERY small movements at first. Cervical muscles work together in patterns, so it's not just one muscle we need to retrain but a whole set of 'active' and 'inactive' muscles. That's why i really like the roller because the difficult precarious balance position forces more of the synergistic muscles to work. The key those is that word 'forces' - it is way more challenging on the roller but great results are possible if you give your nervous system time to learn how to activate the 'inactive' muscle patterns. I hope this helps and good luck!

How do you people find out what type you have? Get a proper diagnosis etc..? I went to several “top doctors” and could get absolutely nowhere. One chiro thought dystonia, which is what introduced me to the condition. I’ve been able to put it together that I have dopa responsive dystonia which I am very close to getting a handle on just on my own taking some stuff for it but I’d prefer to have an actual Doc who is even just somewhat aware of this condition overseeing it

The Neurologist said try trihexyphenidyl but it can lead to memory loss like alzheimer's. What do you do when you can't start in neutral position? I've had cervical dystonia for a little over a year, and a sensory trick used to work, but that's not really the case now. Also, when I'm standing still I don't seem as contorted. Walking has been a struggle because that's when my neck really decides to spaz out.

I like to have a set of "Reset" exercises to calm nerves down - i find that most helpful for improving how the neck feels during activities. I have plans to make some videos with those moves specifically chosen to reduce the muscle tone and pulling in the neck. These could be done to strengthen and activate the muscles but with some downtime afterwards to let the muscles settle before getting very active.
