💛Curated chemical exfoliants on our shop: shop.beautywit...
We all want glowy, clear and smooth skin right?? Did you know there's a lot of dirt, sebum and dead skin on the surface layers of your skin that need to be buffed away and sometimes a face towel just doesn't cut it. So today we're talking all about chemical exfoliation aka AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) & BHA (beta hydroxy acid). These are much more gentle than they sound, and also helps with fine lines and hydration!

I think one of the very important things wasn’t mentioned here: to definitely use sunscreen after using chemical exfoliant as skin is then more prone to UV damage. Most people seem to forget about that.

MaryAnn Ann my thing is, what about the days where I wanna wear makeup? Don’t you have to reapply your sunscreen every two hours? How will I be able to do that over makeup, while using a chemical exfoliant in the morning times? Or will it just be more simple and just as effective for me to use my chemical exfoliant (Sunday Riley Good Genes Lactic Acid Treatment) only at night?

@@robinlofton655 you're supposed to wear sunscreen everyday even when you're not using chemical exfoliant. But if you just want to use it after you apply the exfoliant, you can use a spray sunscreen to reapply it on top of your makeup. I haven't used any because i don't really wear makeup but i've heard it does the trick.

You only need to reapply every 2 hours if you're going to be in the sun. If you're going to be mostly indoors throughout the day, with very reduced sun exposure (like going to lunch), then apply a generous amount before applying your makeup and you can reapply once or twice throughout the day (like before heading to lunch). I found that a great way to reapply sunscreen over makeup is by using a cushion puff. I have gel cream like sunscreens (Senka Aging care is a great one for this), I put it on the back of my hand, dip the cushion puff in it and start patting on my face. I have never disturbed ny makeup doing this.

@@farahfttn I know this is kinda late but basically when you use an acid to exfoliate, it removes the top layers of dead skin making your skin more exposed to sunlight and solar UV radiation. This definitely increases your chance of getting skin cancer, sun spots, hyperpigmentation, and a bunch of other issues. So basically just wear sunscreen and you'll be fine 😂

According to Dr. Dray (a dermatologist on KZfaq) AHA take time to penetrate into the skin and need to be used in leave-on products but not BHA. They penetrate quickly and she encourages ppl to use them in a cleanser.

Likely what happens is that BHA tends to "stick" more to the skin because there are soluble in fat. AHAs are only soluble in water. Even though, if you are suffering from acne incorporating a salicylic solution such as the one from the Ordinary is more effective than having a face cleanser with salicylic acid. I explain this in my last video.

Having a proper scientific background helps a lot. People should be more careful with AHA recommendations. Far too often it leads to over exfoliation and irritation. Which is why I always explain why and how on my videos.

(Cleanse, tone,moisturize Is what I do currently) but I'm afraid of over exfoliating as there are so many products now with exfoliating properties i.e glycolic acid/ salicylic. If I want to use a chemical exfoliant as in "The Ordinary Lactic Acid" 1/2 times per week. Do I stay clear of say Salicylic or Niacinamide? Or can I still use them in a serum? Thanks in advance xoxo.

For scars, glycolic acid can help but over a very long time (5 years)... It depends on how deep there are. For dry skin, you can use a scrub first and then a heavy coat of a deep moisturizer. Stretch marks is usually vitamin A, retinol or the retinoic acid (prescribe by a dermatologist) but it takes time. Hope that's help. I will make video on these subjects.

Haiiiii! That's a great idea, thanks so much for suggesting! 😊I think before using new products, just observe how your skin is and know what it's craving at the time (i.e is it feeling dehydrated or irritated) since our skin changes day to day even if we are a particular skin tone. the good thing about the lactic acid is that it's generally pretty gentle for most skin types and is a great entry to AHA toners 😛I would suggest a serum that addresses your specific skincare needs (dry, oily or combo skin) and then a hydrating moisturizer with hyaluronic acid for every day use :) Then possibly a facial oil for night time! Hope this helps a little in the meantime! We will work on our skincare routine video very soon! Thanks for commenting! - Fel 😘

Then once your skin get used to it, then you start incorporating serums and creams and peels with it 😛Also make sure when you first start, you only use it maybe once or twice a week to build up the tolerance to it! I always use rose water after before applying my rosehip oil and my skin is sooooooo glowy and less pigmented the next morning and from thereon out. I'm so happy that I started caring about skincare because I used to have to cake on makeup to even out and that made my skin even worse. About the cosrx blackhead treatment, I can attest as someone with extremely reactive and sensitive skin that it doesn’t irritate and it leaves your skin feeling soft and almost bouncy (???) which is a plus. A night or two a week I’ll wash my face and pat the liquid in like you would a toner, then leave it on for 20-25 minutes before layering the rest of my skincare. It works great and I’ve used it for several months without trouble

Highly recommend Paula’s Choice AHAs &. BHAs. They have a strength & a texture - liquid, gel, cream, & even foam- for nearly everyone & the price point is very reasonable. Factoring in the amount of product, for many of them the cost/ ml is not much more, & in the case of the liquid BHAs, in fact less, than The Ordinary! Their customer service is also excellent (including a pretty easy return policy should something not work out), they offer samples, regularly have great sales, and while I have tried & even quite liked a good number of other chemical exfoliants, ie Drunk Elephant, SR Good Genes, etc yet I find myself always going back to PC. That said, for the past month or so I have been using - & absolutely LOVING - Moon Juice’s Shroom Exfoliating Potion - which given the quantity is similarly reasonably priced, and unless something changes between now & when I finish the bottle i foresee it being the first non- Paulas Choice exfoliant I will repurchase.
@Mel-pb5xw
@Mel-pb5xw 5 жыл бұрын
PS TIP for those on a tight budget who might like a lightweight lotion formula: the Paulas Choice BODY BHA 2% & AHA 10% are both totally okay to use on the face - even according to PC themselves - & come w/ WAY more product than the facial version for a similar price. Some of the additional anti-aging ingredients are a bit less in the body version but if you’re getting those elsewhere &/ or are otherwise primarily interested in the exfoliant, the BHA or AHA themselves are exactly the same as what is in the comparable face products. FWIW, for years I actually preferred the feel of the body AHA formula to the facial version.

Thank you for suggesting the Moon Juice Exfoliant! I just turned 40 & since my 30’s my skin has become dry. It’s also sensitive (reactive to certain ingredients IMO). Fortunately, I don’t get excessive breakouts. I’m a chemical exfoliant AHA/BHA virgin & this will be my FIRST TIME trying this type of product. Should I anticipate a purging period with the Moon Juice? I’d really like to avoid that. I do LOVE facial oils from The Ordinary but I’m slightly terrified to dry chemical exfoliants although I know they will help my skin tone and dark spots. I’m always scared trying any new liquid product on my face from skincare to new foundations. I know it’s been 6M since your comment but I’m curious to know if you’re still using Moon Juice & if you still love it? Have you tried their Plumping Serum? I’m on a limited budget so I can’t afford DE (although I use their cleansing bars) or SR. The Ordinary has sooo many chemical exfoliants that it’s overwhelming trying to choose a product that right for me & I’d really like to avoid a major purging experience bc I think it’d be hard to differentiate what is purging or if the product just isn’t agreeing with my skin. I hope you see this & would love to hear your feedback! Thank you!!

The ordinary has a AHA 30% BHA 2 % peeling solution, I LOVE IT 😍😂 Slight burning/tingling but it works on my skin, i use it mainly to exfoliate but it deeply cleanses my pores and my milia has reduced by half after first use 😳 so i would recommend it if you have textural irregularities, congestion, pigmentation issues(maybe a seperate product would be better if you have severe hyperpigmentation but this brightens too) 👌 My skin type is normal 😊 I got some congestion going on on my nose and some texture and pigmentation issues on my cheeks.

I been looking for a comment like this on milia, I have only that issue like, alot but very superficial so I don't want someone poking needles in my face and wondered if BHA/AHA would work but was reluctant to try it. I'm using a mild AHA (5% lactic acid) rn but that doesn't do much I think. My bumps did go down a bit after dermarolling, but only done that once so far. So might try the BHA.

I have stupidly sensitive skin, and have done since I was a newborn! I use a menthol stick on my forehead for headaches, and it makes my skin peel - using glycolic is so satisfying to get rid of the peeling skin. Great video xxxxx

@simonsaysism
@simonsaysism 5 жыл бұрын
There are a few different rules to keep in mind depending on what products you use. 1. Generally you want to work from low pH up to normal pH. Pure vitamin C is low pH, and so are AHA and BHA, so you want to use them sooner. Derivative vitamin C and retinol are closer to normal pH, so they're later. 2. Put water-based products on before oil-based products, because putting oil on first will stop the water-based ones from absorbing properly. You can tell what type your product is by whether "water" or "aqua" or "eau" is listed as one of the first few ingredients. 3. The most general advice is to work from the thinnest consistency of product up to the thickest. 4. Lastly, be careful when combining multiple actives in the same night! AHA/BHA, vitamin C, and retinoids can all be irritating to the skin, so combining them in layers is risky and you'll want to proceed carefully to find out what works best for your skin.
