Want to make your exhausts louder? In this video, I'll show you how my Porsche 997.2 sounds with a "gundo" hack (partial bypass) modification before and after.

Done any air intake or plenum mod? Would like a nice louder sound and more torque- two big things in my desire list.

+SonofSilas Thanks! I was originally worried it would be too loud. Now I understand why people add further bypasses afterwards. But, I think it's the right balance of subtle yet aggressive when you want it to be.

Just came across your video which is excellent, Just curious to know if the smaller diameter pipe will make it sound more raspy or deeper? Have you had any issues with this hack? considering it is permanent is there any drawbacks?

+B NA a smaller pipe will not sound as deep nor loud. There are no drawbacks in my opinion as long as the mod is done with the appropriate material and quality welds.

Hi I liked the video a lot,but in my opinion this modification not only "ruins" the original mufflers but also create problems with exhaust gases flow: that fork is effectively a Venturi tube. Better straight pipe it. Or if it is too loud then install an alternative muffler.

Hi congrats on the video it sounds great. I have a question. I own a 2007 c4s cabrio and if you push the sport button the muffler sounds changes a little bit to a deeper more sport sound. I was talking with a local porsche specialist and told him I was thinking about doing the gun do hack. He answered that there sill be no change due to the fact that my exhaust has like a small door inside wich is activated with the sport button. So it kind of makes the bypass by doing that. Is it really true, did your 911 s also change sound before With the sport mode? Should I do the bypass any way? Any help will be really apreciated

+fausto cervantes hi fausto. Your muffler already has a built in bypass, so you can't do this mod. If you want more noise, you'd have to replace the mufflers entirely.

Nope. It's actually still pretty quiet. I'd love to add a valvetronic or PSE to the car at some point. I want the car to be loud when I'm driving spiritedly, but not when I'm getting up in the morning.

I assume there will be no drone? I had my exhaust modded (e92 m3) and it's the best mod one can ever do to the m3, I think it's the same with this one. I got juuust a little bit of drone 2k rpms but so little that it won't annoy in any way. I'm looking for a clean 997 atm. and this is going to my mod list for sure, thanks man.

+Ari Hallami No drone at all--and by drone I mean rattling at a certain RPM. Cruising it's just a tad louder. Overall, it's sort of loud on startup, but then is really quiet still. Other best bang for your buck mods I recommend are: clear side markers ($50), wheel spacers ($200), and plasti dip ($8)!!!

Does Gundo Hack 2" sound even deeper/more agressive than sport exhaust button on a 997 2007 C4S?

No because the 997.2 has an extra center muffler. However gundo should be similar the PSE exhaust all else equal.

nice sound, if I use a larger pipe on the hack will that result in louder sound?

+subzero subzero Yup, but there's probably a point where a larger pipe has to impact on loudness.

+subzero subzero it will up to a certain extent. The largest diameter you can use is around 2.25 inches due to the diameter of the muffler piping.

So what do I tell a local muffler shop to do? Should I go with aluminum or? What material is the exhaust made off? Assuming it should be done with the same? On a 997.2 cab, will it be very loud? Any one in Co- den area who has thus? Will it effect Emmisions in Ca or co???

+Ammar Malik just show them a picture of a gundo hack on a 997.2. there are two pipes that go into the muffler. A stainless steel pipe section should be welded between the two. My muffler shop used aluminized steel. However, I recommend using stainless steel as it is more corrosion resistant, especially in a state like Colorado with all that salt. The mod shouldn't be too loud. Just right and if anything a little on the quite side.

Does it drone in 6 & 7th gear on highway? I have sharkwerks bypassed already, looking to do this vs PSE. Just curious.

It doesn't drone. It's pretty quiet even with the bypass and gundo hack

+Nhut Le I believe you can, but most people remove the secondary cats. I want to get more noise out of my Cayenne turbo. With a few tweaks, I think I can make the turbo v8 sounds knarly!

Where do you live? I'd recommend taking the mufflers off yourself and bringing a picture of what you want done to the shop. It's just welding a pipe between two pipes.

So cant a muffler shop also take the muffler off? Cant it be done without removing the muffer. Worried something may go bad or not tight enough when put back on. Also why not save time and $.

+Ammar Malik a muffler shop can do it. It's an easy process as long as your bolts aren't super corroded. I wouldn't worry about not tightening everything. It's fairly trivial to remove and install a muffler.

Thanks. I was told it's going to cost $500 for the job, I was thinking $250 bc that is what I read or $275 for stainless steel ones. What did you guys pay.

I paid $100, but that was using aluminized steel. The guy painted it with high temp paint to prevent corrosion.

What you are showing is a fister mod ... The Gundo hack is accessing the plugged off port of the muffler and utilizing the PSE option permanently

Oh, thanks for the clarification. The PSE hack you refer to is useless on the 997. The guts of the non-PSE muffler is different from a PSE muffler. The "Fister" hack produces more noise. I've seen some people to the Hankville hack, which is both Gundo and Fister combined.

+1 ... The DIY muffler mod. sounds great on the H2O coupes as well... Sounds great and for cheap DIY money to boot... The Porsche 911 "short circuit" muffler can modification began with the 993 series 911's, the first production series to utilize a side mount muffler architecture...This Muffler Modification is the brainchild of Leyland Pete a 911 (993) owner of the day. The DIY practice is affectionately known as the "LPMM". A bit of the former www.porschelist.org now known as www.rennlist.com trivia.... Signed....a MY98 911 C2S (993) owner
