The Dodo Wounda's story was definitely my favorite! I'd heard her story before, but it always makes me cry. I'm so glad she recovered from being so horribly ill and even having a baby! ❤❤

I had a very similar story to the kitten being nursed by the dog. Once me and my mom found 2 little kittens but no momma. So our pitbull, Bella, fell in love with them and let the kittens suckle. But there was no milk for the kittens. I guess it just soothed them. We did have to feed them. We named them Jimmy and Thradore. We kept then until they died. Jimmy of a dog(he wonderd too far from home) and Thradore of a car. I'm just happy we gave them a good home

The Dodo, all of them are beautiful stories, but I think my favorite, because it made me cry, was Wounda. So heartbreaking, and yet, inspiring. Plus, it is awesome to see the inimitable Jane Goodall at work. She is an amazing, compassionate woman. God bless all these mothers, babies and rescuers. They are the heart and soul of this world.

Ehsayku Htoo I saw a squirrel mom leave her baby on the cement with a bleeding head and leave it there in the baking sun, eventually we rescued him but he died later from his head injury.

Folissa Art Unfortunately, it's up to nature to decide who lives and dies. In most animal kingdoms, it's"survival of the fittest" and mom's (and Dad's too) will abandon or even kill it if there's something wrong with it whether it is brain function, problems with the baby like lack of organs or damaged organs...I hate it, but what are you going to do?

The squirrel mom is probably not catching her breath, but is pretending to be injured. When a perceived threat (like the girl with the camera) gets too close, she will pretend to be hurt to distract the potential predators from going after her babies. I have seen them run around dragging their legs like they had a broken back, and when you come near to see if you can help, they run off, perfectly fine (and would do this repeatedly until all babies were safe in their new home)

Chipmunks will kind of do something similar, they'll act all crazy to attract attention then they'll act like they died. At least they will around cats, not real sure how affective it really is...

Silver Scale Productions I recently saw a white tailed doe act the same way- I noticed one of her fawns (she had 2) in the brush while walking around in my parents wooded backyard, and when I got within about 15 feet with my camera, mom came stumbling into the yard, dragging one leg and making more noise than I have ever seen a deer make. As soon as I backed away she started acting fine, then went to her babies and led them away. I have heard that bunnies sometimes do similar things to protect their young.

sweets08816 a lot of animals do it really, one of my goats had done it too when they were in the yard and the neighbors dog showed up. The dog had harassed my goats before and my oldest male started limping while at the same time fluffing up. I thought he was hurt but when checked him after scaring the dog away he was fine. I have also seen a deer act like that too when a fawn got stuck in the fenced in garden we had at the time (must have walked in through the gate and couldn't find the way out). When I went out to check the garden a doe started to jump and limp around in the adjacent field. I figured something was up so I went and watched from the back porch and saw the doe jump the fence into the garden and saw two fawns. I watched for a while but they kept trying to jump the fence instead of going through the gate so I snuck around to the fence opposite the gate and managed to herd the fawns close enough to the gate that they went through.

A good and loving mom will do anything for and to protect her babies. I am 34 years old and I am a testament to this. My mother and my father have seen my sister and I through every single thing that we have been through. Currently they are planning to pay for all the dental work I will need because I don't have dental insurance. Parents who love their children will always be there no matter what.

I have a story here! My aunt has a husky dog and she has 4 puppies, her name is Foxy because my aunt thought she looks like a fox. I love animals started when I was a kid and I used to thought that I wanna be a veterinarian. I saw a poor sick kitty at the street nearby the gate of our house. I took it inside of our house and trying to help him, I don't know his sickness but he has kind of red dots or pink on his body. Foxy saw him and started to feed him with her milk, I was happy to see that because Foxy started to act as a new mother. But when my grandpa found out, he secretly throw him away because his sickness is contagious and we did nothing to help but I want to.
