Love this show. At this point I’m just invested. What’s funny is that I read the old edition of masks but this new one Chaosium released has changed quite a bit. For example, the werewolf is stated incurable in the edition I am familiar with but Troy specifically states multiple times that this is not the case in his game.

After everything goes wrong, there's nothing like a little downtime clandestine eavesdropping. Things we didn't know we needed: Mystery Squad hazing! The Great Kettle vs Keddle corn debate! Cargot awkwardness intensifies (in the best way) and Ross continues Desmond's journey to convince even the limitless horrors from Beyond about the plight of the proletariat. Time for Chaos is just wonderful.

Troy, to clarify your concern that all of your players might love their characters 'too much' ... That's not a unique sentiment to your players. The whole cast has really embodied a great rag-tag crew. It was more than a little emotional to see Vaughn retire at least temporarily after being overwhelmed. Our hearts will break a little when any of the characters is permanently taken away.

I do wanna say, this very frustrating fumble thing is why I personally have never used fumble rules. The lowest number is still always a failure but it does really suck to randomly fumble everything important. You can see how frustrated Rob is. I don’t see any reason for the extra punishing nature of a fumble. The way TTRPG’s usually go, simply failing is problematic and lifethreatening enough.

I like the fumble rules the way Troy plays them out - I've had GMs in the past who felt every fumble had to end in "You fall into the pit and take damage" or "the guards catch you" - I like that Carter still got some info, but the fumble just introduced some extra drama...just like Real Life ®

@@Panicagq2 Seriously, big fan of how Troy handles the fumbles with TfC. Punishing to reinforce actual stakes without falling into the brutal extremes that would be tempting to establish a real "hard mode." It's a valuable skill to demonstrate, and a difficult needle to thread. The system lends itself toward those extremes much more than many others, to be sure. As with anything else, it all depends on the type of narrative you're looking to build.

I think Troy is handling the mechanic fine, deftly even. But it still seems to me like Rob is rolling 90+ 6+ times in the last 3 episodes. These were all failures. I don’t think he needed the extra drama. Failing all your dice rolls already kind of makes a TTRPG less fun than it could be. If he had simply failed over and over again with no extra punishment, thats bad enough imo.

There was some good stuff happening. My Bloody Valentine, early Blur, Stereolab, Boards of Canada, Cornelius’ first albums, and of course Nirvana. Lots of other stuff too, but a lot of it was more underground, pop music was pretty bad.
