this video is to put to rest what is commonly debated with these exodus broadheads... does the swept really have more penetration than the full model?
i was tired of talking about it and the only way to truly know is to test it pure and even and let the results talk
the results will shock some, can't say i'm included lol

Great test and info. Rrally great points on why a full blade is more humane. I live in WI and we can use either type I never paid any attention to barbed/swept or full. Ive found the full 125 gr Exodus to be very accurate, super sharp and well constructed.

i havent read all the comments below but the reason the swept penetrated less was because the target moved when the broadhead hit it (9:53 of the video). Look at the fletched end of the arrows- the swept one is angled because at the arrow hit- the gel moved.

I shoot the qad full and I made the switch from rage and have not looked back these heads are the best heads on the market in my opinion. Pass through shots have a higher recovery rate no matter where the shit is ask any dog tracker they will tell you that and this head will blow a shoulder apart and keep going. I'm no longer nervous when hugging that shoulder. Last deer I shot blew clean through and sank the entire head in a tree after going through the deer clipping a shoulder and a rib and I have yet to have a deer go over 40yds. That being said all shots on deer have been in the boiler so far and that makes a huge difference.

Thanks for the video. It's going to be my second time in bow hunting, first time for elk. It was coming down to accuracy and penetration since I am new. To me it came down to the micro hades and the exodus. It looks like I'll save a little money in the long run if I go with the Exodus full. The video really helped to choose which Exodus to get(125gr). Now, on that note. Your arrow set up. I probably won't be able to get to 70 lbs realistically this year which also increases the need of the arrow to penetrate more. What arrow set up should I use? I'm shooting with the Mission Hammr. Thanks again. Semper Fi man.

@@BlueCollarOutdoorsUSA thanks. I'm just thinking because of my lack of time shooting arrows I possibly should get the best arrow, spine, foc, fletch angle, broadhead, to help me as a crutch until I am good enough that it doesn't matter. How did the broadheads fly and point of impact compare to your field tips???? Do you think this broadhead would be good for a crossbow that shots 400 fps??? I had a bad experience last year with a mechanical broadhead hitting a hard spot/bone on a deer and not finding the deer or my arrow. I did see the lighted knock when the deer ran and thought I would find the arrow laying on the ground but didn't and blood trail went to very small pin drops until we couldn't find anymore. I never want that to happen again. I think I hit the rib bones and it Wedged in there.

@@BlueCollarOutdoorsUSA Ok I will be waiting for the crossbow qad exodus crossbow heads. Well you do the swept and full to see if the full will fly different out of a crwhich is faster then your compound bow. I think the full will not be as accurate as the swept because of the extra blade added to the back of the full. I think because of that the full will plane and be less accurate. Were they equally as sharp?? Maybe that could explain it or maybe the gel gets trapped under and in btw the spaces of the blades on the swept?? Interesting i thought the swept would have done better to originally…I have shot deer with both heads and each of them went thru both shoulders with a 10 pt crossbow shooting 365 fps neither had a problem with penetration the swept had a slightly larger hole on the deer maybe that also could be why it did not penetrate as far in the gel cuz it actually makes a bigger cut??

I agree with you and disagree as well. I’ve been testing and using the exodus since it came out I’ve killed deer with the swept and I’ve killed deer with the full I’ve shot them both side by side Does the swept version have more of a chance of getting stuck in an animal? possibly but not necessarily I do think it is way more dynamic than you think most of the time if you hit an animal with a qad it’s going through and if it’s not passing through it’s probably lodged in bone neither swept or full is coming out of that and the arrow will be snapped off. Now here’s some facts the swept is more forgiving and that equals better accuracy any time you wound a deer is a bad thing and if you don’t have a perfectly tuned bow good bh flight can be impossible to achieve and it’s not an easy thing to get a bow to that point. To but a blanket statement saying that swept qads will not come out of an animal is not true your setup is everything. Maybe if we were shooting kids bows or low poundage. People overthink things and I’m setting my bow up for success not failure. Broadheads have been getting stuck In animals since the beginning of archery all shapes sizes and designs. These laws regarding barbed broadheads were created because people were shooting actual barbed heads and they would poison the tips to kill the animal that’s why these laws were created if you ask me it’s outdated and just like any law that restricts our rights they try to mold it into whatever the person sitting in that position wants. And in most cases these positions are held by anti hunters driven solely by emotion and not logic.

Buy a hootershooter and Prove to me that the swept is more accurate than the full that’s the only point I’m interested in this the rest is merely opinion but you forgot the arrow has a lot more impact on Broadhead flight as well My whole channel is designed around testing to have the best ethical setup to take afield so I wouldn’t say I setup for failure but I just am honest enough to admit I know 10+ broadheads just as good as the swept that don’t have the negative risk I have deemed unacceptable to my own moral compass You do you man it don’t bother me either way but there is no actual difference between the swept & full other than the full being able to be hunted in every state

Never had an fixed blade " shook" . The only time i had it happen was with a mechanical broadhead. Otherwise the few times i didn't get a pass through the arrow broke off so nothing was "shook" the part of the arrow inside of the deer stayed in the deer. What i learned is the discipline of knowing when to pass on a shot. There's nothing wrong with either one of those broadheads but know your limits, be disciplined in what you want to be as a hunter. It sucks when you pass up that huge buck not because you can't hit it but because you don't want it to suffer. I have done this before never to see that big buck again. Thats hunting. I just think about that big buck living to breed and pass on those genes. Plus i can go home and sleep not worrying that an animal is out there suffering because of me.

Great video guys. The reason qad made the swept like that is not because they want the barbed head to stay in the animal. Every manufacturer makes a broad head to get a pass through they do not want it to stay in the animal. The swept is made like that to minimize planning surface. Penetration has nothing to do with it there the same size and equally sharp. The swept is more accurate because it has less planning surface. More accurate = better shot = faster death = more humane. Do an accuracy test and see.

There is no way to do an actual accuracy test with a human shooting a bow… human error is to common and even the slightest difference in grip can make a dead nuts shooting Broadhead look like trash I’m saving up for a hooter shooter as we speak and then I will do accuracy tests til then it isn’t an honest test and I won’t do it Also I’m aware they didn’t make this head to stay in the animal lol that isn’t what I said, I said being barbed it has the potential of doing so hence why barbed heads are banned in many states And as you can see in this test the penetration difference is not what we’ve been told would happen, the full out penetrated the swept which is the only factor we were testing here

What do you think about the whole thing about lining up fletchings with the blades of a fixed head? Obviously you don’t take it too seriously having a 4 fletch on a three blade head
@BlueCollarOutdoorsUSA
@BlueCollarOutdoorsUSA 2 жыл бұрын
I’m no expert on fletchings, I just started fletching my own arrows and tinkering to see what gives me the best flight with different heads, I really like a 4 fletch right helical seems to control all the heads we test good To me from what I’ve seen thus far the main thing is having a well tuned arrow (bare shaft/nock tuned) that’s more important than the fletchings, but like I said I’m just diving into this so that may change as I learn more

@TylerHunt556
@TylerHunt556 2 жыл бұрын
@@BlueCollarOutdoorsUSA I’ve also seen where it’s more important to have a well tuned arrow. Levi Morgan says when he bare shaft shoots his arrows, he sees which way they kick and then adds his helical to that direction when fletching so the vanes arent fighting against the natural action of the arrow. But other than that I’ve heard exactly what you said. Fletch in-line with blades provides marginal performance gains but most important is well tuned arrow
@BlueCollarOutdoorsUSA
@BlueCollarOutdoorsUSA 2 жыл бұрын
I’ve heard that from Levi as well, to me that is genius and makes the most sense if your bow to fletch is working together I feel that would yield far more influence than lining the fletchings up to the Broadhead, I’m unsure what that would actually do to benefit flight honestly

Without the gel being secured so it cannot move and possibly rob your arrow of penetration energy, your test results may or may not ever be 100% accurate in my opinion. Good test though and I appreciate you making the video. The broadheads are identical as far as frontal profiles, so if you did this test 100 times, your results will bounce back and forth 100 times. Two shots are not conclusive. Exodus heads are some of the best no doubt.

Each test we do gives exactly what we say it does… a reference performance with our setup it is not to be seen as an absolute as no test should or would ever be absolute The block doesn’t need to be secured to give a penetration test it acts as tissue on impact it’s no different than on impact of an animal The only true difference is the gel is way more dense than animal tissue which provides a more extreme test of penetration both of these heads would have blown through the gel but the results of the test yielded the exact opposite of what everyone argued for the swept… could it change setup to setup you betcha but doubt it would sway back in forth in one setup at all as that gel is fbi certified to be the exact density throughout

Next time you get a shot a whitetail make sure to take 3 shots as there is to many variables to go off one shot…. O wait you only get one and I hear thousands of hunters blame a Broadhead after one bad experience….. We have shot enough gel to know that shooting 3 times wouldn’t have changed anything it would have been the same…. 3 times that gel is fbi grade certified 20% ballistic gel so it’s the same density throughout the whole block

@@brandonyoung7760 🤣🤣 I understand what you’re saying i was just telling you that the reasoning why I wouldn’t use a swept is for one they are illegal in NY for good reason and due to the animal having zero chance to shake the head etc so hearing that at 70 yards I’d see where it’s better than the full just reinforces why I’d never shoot it Not really hard to understand but the annihilator is a way better head than this swept in every facet

Sorry but taking one shot of each isn’t exactly a "test" You need to make dozens of shots and collect a set of data and use the average…

@BlueCollarOutdoorsUSA Жыл бұрын
No test is absolute but in this test the results are clear, could it change ya slightly but we’ve shot enough ballistic gel test to know it wouldn’t flip the script Also in my eyes you don’t get dozens of shots when it matters so my focus of our Broadhead test is just that.. one shot
@jessekeefer1352
@jessekeefer1352 Жыл бұрын
@@BlueCollarOutdoorsUSA I’m just saying you could shoot again and get a different result… so shooting once and calling it a test isn’t fair to people looking for help on which to choose.. a better "test" would be to shoot a group and then go with the average.. that way you can give people accurate information on which one performs better on average. That would be like sighting your gun in by shooting once and calling it good.. there is a reason you shoot a group to see how it performs. Just pointing out your test is lacking data.
@BlueCollarOutdoorsUSA
@BlueCollarOutdoorsUSA Жыл бұрын
Once again no test is an absolute no matter how many shots it is, averages etc my setup to yours is completely different all our tests are viewed as is a reference to what a Broadhead, choke, load whatever we’re testing in said video can do performance wise and we speculate on that performance in our setup That’s it nothing more… with that said the differences that we would see from shooting repeatedly and averaging would be so little it’d barely be noticeable that’s why I spend the big money on the 20% fbi grade certified ballistic gel the consistency is certified throughout the whole block
