Hey John it's Kevin here.wanted to let you know that me and my son both shot 8 points this year and we both filled doe tags.i saw 31 different Buck this past archery season of which 4 were really good bucks.all of the buck sightings were right after a Cold front came through.im still using the tactics that I learned from your books that I bought and I passed those on to my son who really improved his bowhunting success.he went out by himself this year bowhunting and now he's pretty much self sufficient and wants to do it by himself now.thanks again for your help in regards to bowhunting pressured bucks.my success has skyrocketed.have a good Thanksgiving and a merry Christmas and a happy new year

I just watched another video from deer hunting magazine... John has hunted 53 season and has harvested 50 P&Y class whitetails official in record books... he may be hard to take because he is very matter of fact in his opinion. I have spoken with him he has always been friendly and I have never thought of him as arrogant. Confident in his skills and knowledge based on the results of his tactics absolutely.

Best Hunting Advice Vidio ever, and I watch about 50 every day, at this time of the year(broadheads, accuracy, mock scrapes...)! I have to ground hunt these days, so the best advice he gave, which I totally agree with, is a Face Netting. I stalked a BIG doe for an hour last year(the wind was in my face too); I had seen her on the horizon, when I left my car; when I got to 20 yards of her, some deer ran, but she just stared at me, wasn’t sure what I was! 20 yard pass-through! 2 days later, I was walking back to my car, 10 mins of legal shooting left, again, down wind, stopped at old railroad tracks, a 10 Pt. walked right toward me, stopped about 18 yds, looked at me, again, wasn’t sure what I was, and I got my 1st 10 point! Due to face mask+ being down wind. And, this is in Heavy Pressured SE Pa.

Great video! One of the best on KZfaq imo. Anything prying info from John Eberhart, I'm all ears. He's very meticulous with what works for him in the northeast and he has the record to back it up.

I have a suggestion for the interviewer. When a man with this much knowledge offers to show you his personalized saddle, then please take the time to look at it and share with us. Although I enjoyed every moment of the interview, I felt like I missed a great opportunity to learn more info from a great hunter.

A lot of what he does is my game plan also. I used to be fanatical about scent and it got to the point that all the work was taking the fun out of it. I still bathe in sports wash body soap , keep my camo clean and stored until I go in the woods and watch the wind religiously . I see as many deer as I ever have. Hats off to the fella for going all in though!

This guy is straight up no nonsense, he's confident in his approach and very educated.

The interviewer understands exactly who he is sitting with. This guy is the Ted Williams of deer hunting in Michigan and pulls it off every year. Ted Williams was confident and didn't have time for small talk. Dean Potter did not have time for small talk. I wish folks wouldn't judge. Ego stops folks from listening and learning and producing. This isn't arrogance it's concentration and intensity with a discipline (understanding the steps required to succeed) that few can match.

John Eberhart is one of the best. I met him once stand in that 5 minute conversation he taught me the secret to success. I then went on to get my first buck in Pope and Young the very next day. His videos and books are worth the money!

I love this video! My only concern is finding public hunting land that is remote enough not to have other hunters in it. We have a couple large River islands that I’ve thought about trying, but I’ve seen boats on them during deer season. Thank you sir for passing on your experience!

I’ve started throwing lit fire crackers out my tree once every 1/2 hour as well as thoroughly dowsing myself an old spice just so I don’t have to feel so guilty about deer hunting in Iowa.

I do very similar than he does... prep in early spring(Feb-March_April), hunt early Oct, 1st week, then only once or twice till the rut starts.... starting right before Halloween is my first vacation ...

Some of yal are defending him saying he is NOT arrogant because you have watched him before or met him personally and he is a good guy. That's great. But don't get mad at people on here calling him a douche or arrogant because in THIS video he does give off that impression with his posture, tone, and honestly some of the way he attacks other hunters. If you get mad at this comment you are just unreasonable. Also, I don't believe his scent lock suits are what is helping him not get winded for 3 reasons. 1: He is so high in the tree at 30 feet that his wind is going over deer and on hunts before 2pm the thermals are carrying it up. 2: He has so many spots picked out that he hardly hunts the same stand twice so deer aren't on to him. 3: I think it's odd to say you have never been winded when in the timber you can't see all that far. Who's to say a deer didn't smell you from 400 yards away......... it's definitely possible. He for sure is a great hunter. That's all.

It made a ton of sense about deer needing security cover to travel. A turkey is the same way alot of times it's hard to call one across 300yds of open timber. It can be done if he's hot enough but he's gonna be on alert

I hope this comment gets back to John... if someone doesn't think scent control is a big deal I have a couple examples for them. Backcountry Elk hunting may not allow you to wash your clothes or yourself as you should. Spend a few days up there sweating up mountains and then go into town for a shower and laundry. Step out of the shower and sniff the clothes you were just wearing... WOW! Talk about stink! Also, I love scentlok... and Dead Downwind products because they work. I just did a test in my backyard garden while picking my squash. Within 10 seconds I had 30 mosquitos biting me even after I just showered. I had to leave ASAP... so I found my Dead Downwind spray and used it. I then went back to the garden in a tank top and shorts and finished picking my squash for 30 minutes and I never saw even one mosquito. I think it proves a point about these products! Great interview with a lot of good info. He's very meticulous with what he does hence his success. Anyone can kill a big buck on private property with little pressure, but it takes a different attitude and approach to consistently kill record bucks on heavily pressured public land like Michigan and Pennsylvania. John just does things differently and pays attention to the smallest details that many guys overlook.

I’ve lived in Georgia, Kentucky and now Iowa. There is no comparison. I hunter GA for 3 years and never even saw a 2 1/2 year old buck. I’ve lost county how many 140+ deer I’ve seen in KY and IA. They don’t exactly let you pet them, but the big buck numbers are really something special in the Midwest.

I've whitetail bow hunted for 35 yrs and no one, not even John can just forget about the wind. There more going on with his hunting than he is speaking about. And, I'm not accusing him of anything illegal. He's a successful hunter but he doesn't just forget about the wind. NO WAY.

It's so nice to hear someone so realistic. People have been killing buck and deer in generally successfully forever. It's really the past 20 year where theres been so much competition for hunter dollars. No one watches reality shows or sitcoms or listens to celebrity interviews and compares it to their lives. 90% of the professional hunters are the same. They're pushing sponsors, they need viewers and fresh exciting content. The tell you, you need the best camo, stands, scents, cameras, calls, detergent. They never mention that they're 4 5000 acre farms or ability to plant food plots and manage the property to grow and keep the deer have anything to do w success.

He is a very straight forward guy and gets to the point which may offend people. But being an avid Michigan hunter I toatally agree with this. It’s hard for people that don’t experience a full Michigan deer season on public land to fully understand what he is saying. While we may not have most hunter numbers per acre throughout the whole state below the rifle line in Michigan is where the majority of people hunt, the amount of hunters per acre would absolutely blow people from other states minds. It is almost unbelievable to think he has shot that many quality bucks on public/non managed land

Wow he has a ton of information. It would be nice to utilize some of his tips and also put a couple apple trees in the transition area between the main food source and bedding to keep them protected from drive bye hunters a bit more. I hate to admit I don't use any scent control and also my best bucks were when I woke up from asleep sitting on a chair out in the woods or just walking in for an evening hunt the one time and there he was squaring off to fight another buck.

Thank you for sharing. It's good stuff for those who are open to listening. If viewers can set aside their own preconceptions and be open to hearing what a proven successful hunter has to share, there is surely beneficial information here. I can understand how some things early in this video could be taking one way or the other. Again, one's ability to be open-minded can be a virtue. But like many other things in life, if someone only wants to make their own judgement on something and voice their own condescending view of another person...ect...I personally just have a hard time understanding what is to gain or what good comes out of that. I'm afraid this equation is all to common and it can be a restrictive barrier for learning and improving and even can become destructive if we're not careful. I wish our species could become more like a mature buck picking up on that sort of scent, learn to avoid it, outsmart it and live on as a stronger wiser specimen. In all honesty, early in this video, I wasn't sure how to take the man being interviewed either. I was asking myself if he just wanted to make a point that he hunts smarter than other people. But keeping an open mind and actually being able to listen and get more of the bigger picture, I found it totally worth while. He offers so many tips for us. Consider that he doesn't even have to agree to doing the interview at all. That alone speaks to a more selfless aspect of his character and I very much appreciate when experts are willing to share their knowledge and experience! Love hearing hunting stories! I agree with everything he said except being scent free. Not possible! You can knock your scent from 100percent to maybe 50 if you spend outrageous amounts of money. Still can't beat a deers nose

I watched this whole interview after just have gotten into deer hunting and I have to say. I learned a lot and it made me excited to join the hunt. Awesome job and great detail giving John. I would like to ask a question to @eberhart outdoors. Do you typically see fewer deer but bigger deer or many deer with bigger deer? And are you hunting specific bucks that you or someone else has seen or are you hunting percentage areas that you would believe hold big bucks. All questions pertain to pressured public land.

Why is there so much hate for this guy? He's sharing info and lessons he's spent a lifetime learning. So what if he's not giving out his top 10 most valuable secrets? If i was him, i'd save those for my grandkids too. This guy doesn't owe anyone anything. If you don't like his attitude, move on. Arrogant not arrogant I don’t care this guys got some great information and I’m gonna put it to good use. I also hunt in Michigan and the Mature bucks are most definitely educated to the ways of people. I always say you just have to Be a better hunter than your neighbor.

Great hunter love the video. Would be curious to see his scent free tactics against a police dogs nose. Field and stream has done this test against other hunters tactics and the hunters almost always lose except tracking in very dry conditions. Detecting hunter via wind hunters always lose. This would make me a full blown believer if he could fool the dogs nose from upwind.

Didn't watch it but didn't he mention it's easier to trespass, shoot them at night or in places you're not allowed to hunt?

Scent control is more trouble than its worth. Play the wind and don't worry about how you smell. Works every time.

When hunting public land with a saddle u have to use climbing sticks and a platform. You can’t put spikes in a tree in Michigan. Only screw u can screw into a tree is a tee to hold the tree stand as u strap it. This is how I understand it. I really want to try a saddle but the platform and climbing sticks is what turns me off. It’s just like a mobile tree stand setup with a little bit less weight. If we were able to spike a tree on public land I would switch over in a second. Nothing beats walking up to your spot and just climbing up and hunting. U could have spots set up all over

Man I would really like this guy to come with me to check out our reservations tribal hunting land here in central Michigan. Barely anyone else in our tribe hunts so I have so much low pressure hunting land with big bucks. Just let him get in there to check it out and tell me what I should do before I go in there and mess it up lol. Already had a shot at a big bodied six point last week that I missed. Going to leave that area alone until it gets closer to the rut and then see if I can catch him walking through. I have an area I want to put a stand in that's surrounded by corn and there's so many oaks dropping acorns and a creek that runs through for a water source. Found a really nice scape just on the edge of the woods there so I'm going to put out a dripper on it and a camera. If im seeing a lot of day light activity I'm going to put up a tree stand inside of the wood line so I can hopefully catch them as they move through to get to the corn. Should be able to hear them crossing the creek too on their way through. Plenty of woods surrounding the whole area loaded with oaks dropping acorns. Just going to set up 20 or 30 yards back from their most used game trail on their way to the corn. Winds Almost always blowing the right way too so my scent won't be in those woods at all. Should just blow back out over the open field. I have an ebike too so I should be able to get in there quickly and quietly minimizing my scent trail.
