Best camouflage is not moving. My favorite pattern is plaid. I get busted much less in that than I do wearing a commercial camo pattern.

Depends entirely on what you're hunting and how you're hunting. The fact is that camo is designed to part hunters with their money. Is some of it useful? Sure, but the people put way too much time, energy, and money into camo, especially when talking about deer and other cervids. As for the guy talking about natural predators, half of the ones he named don't have camo patterns as we think of them. If wolves, coyotes, and cougars count as camouflaged then so should I in coyote tan pants and a grey wool sweater.

In my area of NE Oklahoma the old Hardwoods camo pattern was awesome, but of course everyone changes their patterns every year or so but that pattern was awesome in the fall woods in my opinion.

I hunt from a tree stand in early season, so blending in with the foliage is essential. I hunt from the ground (blow-downs), in mid to late season, so blending in with my surroundings is essential. THUS, there ARE patterns that are useful in ALL situations! HOWEVER, something I always wear is HECS... It's a "GAME CHANGER"... Try it... TRUST ME!!!

Generally no. But if youve moved made noise and the animal looks right at you focused. Yes it matters, especially on ground and close range.

Most states require that the hunter wears blaze orange or pink for rifle hunts. Why bother? The only time I wear camo is for waterfowl, turkey and bow hunting deer and elk. Mostly, camo has become a fashion statement....IMHO.

When I was a platoon sergeant, my platoon tested camouflage patterns for the US Army and the NATICK laboratory (now CCDC). The Multi Cam pattern did well during the day, at night - using Night Observation Devices and the naked eye - and in a built-up area (city fighting). That said, killing a deer is so easy, a person could do it while wearing a yellow rain suit - especially with a rifle.

Camo brands are comfortable for the most part. Alot of them are well thought out and prevent you from over heating or freezing and allow you to move. The brands I've experienced hold up better to the terrain as well especially briar

I live in a state where a blaze orange vest is required, which obviously greatly hinders comoflage. Yet people still harvest deer every year. I think there's a balance everyone needs to find themselves. Like the second guy mentioned, you could still hunt with a spear, but most likely, you don't. Is camo needed? Obviously not, but not using it doesn't help you either. Staying still and quiet is important. If anything, hunting gear is more apt to keep someone at the right temperature for the right hunting style, provide a quieter product, and add a nother layer of concealment with comoflage.

A red plaid shirt is the best. You are visible to other shooters but not animals. They also don't make a noise that nylon and goretex does. Only birds and some lizards can see colour. Just something that breaks up your silhouette. You can sit on a stool in the middle of a road that deer or pigs cross. Some may stop and look at you, but if you don't move, they dismiss it.

Back when I started hunting in PA in the late 1960's everyone wore tred & black checkered "Woolrich" . Then of course came 250 sq.in. of fluorescent orange; head,chest & back combined. MUST be visible le 360° . Many hunters argued whether camo was even legal, but there were a few Raambos that wore the military black & green camo pants . I've always favored Original Mossy Oak, "Bottomland" pattern.

Yes solids can work but it’s about blending in: The garment Shade is the # 1 thing- think about hunting in the snow without any white! Then outline disruption- whether that’s a solid or Bottomland against a tree, or a hawaiian shirt against a bush, or a plaid shirt. Then mimicry of terrain features - leaves, branches, cattails, or whatever. Finally shine/dullness and color because deer don’t see all colors well.

No! “ BUT IT HELPS!” lol. After wearing many various patterns over at least 50 years- yes I believe it does help. The very best clothing I started using prolly 15 years ago is a CAMO LOOSE-LEAF suit. AND I wear HECS clothing underneath the loose leaf. The loose leaf breaks up the human form enough to give me an edge either on the ground or sitting in a tree. There’s a greenish and brownish colored suit for different times and places. I’ve also know I can usually raise my bow arm slowly with this suit on and get drawn with get less attention from animals- especially turkeys that don’t seem to ever miss seeing any movement. And as seen in the HECS clothing videos I honestly believe this stuff works. You still HAVE TO hunt the wind. I’ve had coyotes within 10 feet of me and deer 20 feet and never knew I was there. Anyway, that’s my 2 cents on it. 👍👍

Yes! You absolutely need camo "if" you're hunting like a REAL MAN (no tree stand, no ground blind, no shooting houses, no game farms, not over a food plot, not over a pile of corn, etc...). Native Americans wore camo when they hunted (animal skins, brush, etc...). The old timers wore camo when they hunted (plaid).

Our grandparents wore plaid and jeans while out hunting and did just fine. It’s not always what you have, but what you do with it. You can all the gear in the world and still suck at hunting.

The need for camo depends on the situation. If your rifle hunting from far hill tops or doing drives, it doesn't really matter, but if your bow hunting from the ground it makes all the difference in the world.

I love camo but it’s definitely not needed, I don’t care what pattern you’re wearing if you don’t have other stuff around you to help hide you you’ll get pick out, can it help yes if it’s used properly, but like the one guy mentioned, wear the wrong camo in the wrong place you’ll stick out like a sore thumb, you can camouflage your clothes while wearing solid colors, for example, you wear a grey and black flannel with a olive green vest over it and let’s say you have a brown bino harness, you are camouflaged and if it matches your surroundings it’ll help you blend in like a camo pattern will, and depending on your surroundings it can be just as effective or as ineffective as camo wearing the right or wrong camo patterns.
@matthewdennis1739
@matthewdennis1739 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. I usually wear different shades of brown, grey and drab green. When you have different colored shirts, vest, bino harness, pants/bibs I think it does a pretty good job of breaking up your form if you know how to conceal yourself.
