Hint, fill a ballon with some of this, let it fully cure, then, flatten a spot. Does it rebound? nope, stays flattened. Might be fine for a lightweight push mower tire, but that's about it.

I used to work for a commercial tire shop that had a foam filler for the big tractor tires. As far as expansion goes I don't know if there was that much expansion. This is due to the filler you are using is for filling cracks around doors and windows, thus the need for expansion. The foam we used was monitored with a pressure gauge and there was a needle driven into the tire opposite the valve stem for venting air. When putting the foam fill in the tire the valve stem was on the bottom and the foam introduced until it started to bubble out through the pin in the top. At this time the pressure was obtained, the pump was shut down, valve replaced in the valve stem, and a nail used to plug the vent hole. Then curing. 24 to 48 hours, depending on how large of a tire we did. And we did several rear tractor tires. And these weren't garden tractors.

Thank YOU for these tips and information. I should certainly have been more clear about how the foam needs air to expand and set-up. The needle in the opposite end is brilliant! Thanks.

When you add foam thru the valve stem with no way for the air to escape you end up with a tire full of foam and compressed air. As long as the compressed air doesnt leak out it seems to work. You have to have at least one air escape hole. If the air bleed hole is too small it might clog before the air escapes. I blew up an old tire once. Luckily it happened when I wasnt around. If you dont have a mess to clean up you didn't do it right. It still wont work for weight carrying tires.

I did this twice on my lawn trailer tires and wasted 2 cans of Great Stuff trying this. The foam never expanded or solidified. I contacted the manufacturer and was told that the product needs MOISTURE to work properly. On my third attempt, I injected about 2 ounces of water into each tire, spun the tirs to distribute the water evenly, and then re-injeccted them with Great Stuff. This worked out very well and gave me great results! The manufacturer was adamant, however, that THIS IS NOT AN APPROVED USE OF THEIR PRODUCT.

My tube has gone bad many times. Pain in the rear and the wallet. I'm moving wood chips around the yard with my John Deere mower trailer and have one tube that went bad and sucked up into the tire. No valve stem is protruding. I notice that even with that weight in the tractor, the tire holds it pretty well. Thinking if the tire with a blown tube can handle the weight, then a foam filled would probably work. Not a fan of how expensive the foam is and the sticky mess, but I may try it.

I've sold polyurethane systems for over 40 years and one can achieve all sorts of modulus using various chain stopping reactions. Urethanes can be light foam or and hard as a rock depending on when the reaction is stopped. The best system for this would be a soft rubbery consistency and filling the tire evenly is also desirable. Just my two cents worth. You just need to find someone with a lot of different formulas that they have experimented with for the best results. There are a few companies i've dealt with that make several different modulus urethanes.

when you quickly put the core in to stop the foam from coming out, i assumed you screwed it in tight, but it looks like may not have because later you showed that air was escaping. can you explain exactly what you did. do you leave the core "partially" reinstalled????
@HNXMedia
@HNXMedia 4 жыл бұрын
That is the trickiest part. You have to allow a a small amount of air in the tire through the stem so that the foam will "set-up" (this type foam requires air to "activate"). If you seal the tire/valve too quickly, the foam will just be mushy inside the tire. Though I do not show it in this video, you can actually cut a small hole in the tire itself to increase the amount of available air for the foam to react with (the foam will eventually seal it back up. But to answer the question, when you're done, the valve is fully installed. Thanks for asking a great question. Peace.

@@joelsch8627 Friend, I would absolutely not feel comfortable suggesting to use this technique on anything that is designed to support a living being. This is only for yard/farm equipment as a "quick fix." But to answer the last question, yes drilling a hole in the opposite side of a tire would help increase the "air interaction" with the foam (and you would know when the tire was "full." Hope this helped. Peace.

Do you need to spin the tire to distribute the foam evenly? Its just for my garden cart.
@Sebman33
@Sebman33 18 күн бұрын
I would do that exact thing. Just roll it back and forth with some pressure to make sure the whole 360 degree surface meets! Id glad wrap the top of the tire and puncture a whole through the top to let excess air escape and it would help distribute the foam better, dry better and be more uniform. Then use a puncture repair kit to fill the hole. bobs your uncle. You now have an invisible stable tire.
@jefolson6989
@jefolson6989 16 күн бұрын
@Sebman33 thank you. I ended up using just 2 holes . One for air escape the other to insert the foam. Then switch halfway through spinning the whole time. If anything I got the first 2 too hard but it's better than flat. Great idea.

Hi - What type of foam did you use - I tried it but the foam turned to rock and did not go all through the tire.....
@HNXMedia
@HNXMedia 3 жыл бұрын
I used "Great Stuff." I have learned that it helps to intentionally punch a hole in the tyre opposite the valve to allw more air in so that the foam will "cure." It will get hard and solid over time and may require a "refresh" if the foam breaks down. This is designed as a temporary fix for non-load-bearing items like the pressure washer shown in the video (or maybe a garden cart) - not a garden tractor or anything that would transport a living creature. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

The problem with your tyre seating is usually modern wheelbarrow wheels are injection moulded plastic wheels. They are so bad they are not round, and the tubeless tyre does not hold air. The cure is to fit a tube in the tyre, or get a metal wheel thats completely round.

If his tire was truly full of foam he would not have been able to squeeze it like he did in the video. The best way is to lay the tire on its side and drill four holes on the sidewall and then allow the foam to expand and come out all four holes. The foam can expand like it should and the excess is easily cut off from the four holes.

LOL. There is not even remotely enough compressed air in that can to fill up that tire. Now yes, some compressed air goes in with the foam, but the foam is what fills the bulk (if not all) of the case. Works even better if you put a hole in the tyre opposite the valve as others have suggested (that way you know when the foam comes fills completely and "air" causes the foam to cure faster).
