The advice I give is #1-Have your finance's in order meaning if you don't have a month pension/ret/ss then you don't need to come yet. #2-Have some savings for your initial setup for housing, car, ect. And I have 3 different bank accounts that way if something happens to one I still have excess to money.

@@imexpatbill yeah..navigating this life. We need to think twice or even hundred times in making e decision ..don't decide at the peak of emotion otherwise you'll be tormented for the result ..don't also decide when you are unhappy of stressed otherwise it will only end in chaos ..don't decide when you are sad you'll just end up regretting it. Decide by asking God what' to do ..sometimes it isn't always what we want but it the will of God.

I try to look at it from a financial stability standpoint. Even if things don't work out with a certain relationship, my options are far greater there than in the U.S. Of course a steady income in retirement is crucial.

If you don’t have at least $3000 US coming in monthly- stay home. You’re broke there and here. You will be considered a squatter here and every blogger that says you can enjoy life on less is a scammer liar and low income.

It makes me laugh that foreigners feel that they come here with a wad of cash/redundancy pay and get on by. 50k looks good in the short-term but it won't last long. You need an income, you need savings. I came here with 1M USD. I had already bought a house prior to relocating. Don't date online. Maybe meet someone in person.

I believe between 2000.-2500./ monthly USD you should have a comfy living. Have enough funds to at least have finances to fly home. I always bring 2 credit cards and 2 ATM cards ( Charles Schwab and Fedility) no international withdrawal fee's. I test out both ATM cards to make sure your PIN # is working before your travel to the Philippines. Notify your banks that you're traveling to the Philippines. These are just my 2 cents... happy travels.

Expats should budget their money and not splurge over the capacity of their income, especially if they are retired. Pension money is limited. If you're receiving $2000 US a month, it should be more than enough.

@@imexpatbillFor some reason many want a partner as a maid. And of course, a maid has to be paid. My partner works, has her salary and can pay the bills. She wouldn't even want to depend on me. Our relationship is emotional, psychological rather than financial. It seems many expats are afraid of such kind of relationship.

Far too many ignore the warnings. Literally have those thinking they are going to live off 5k for the year. One guy had 30k and he wanted it to last 4 years but he gave 20k to the online girlfriend to build a house in the informal settlement…You’re unlikely to be welcome in the slums, informal settlements…so the WE relationship…quickly turns into you gave her a donation and you are on your butt.

I didn't mention the issue that if the expat has personality flaws or addictions not attended to, then the expat will bring them over to the new country.

@@imexpatbill 100% I have noticed nearly all the expats I have run into have something going on. Not all but most. Addiction, Metal Health, PTSD, ext....I support these guys getting care, I am just not sure adding in a new country with preexisting issues is always the best option. Which brings me to a decision I made, I am better off staying away from common expat hangouts. Last thing I want to do is spend 8 hours drinking in front of a bar with buy me drink girls, some guys think they are actually well liked or in love.

I've liked in the Philippines for over nine years, my expenses have never been under 3k per month. Do not believe these fools pedalling living like a king on 1000 per month....it's not true. Many things in the PI are fantastically more expensive than in your home country. I've seen so many men coming here trying to live on a reduced SS, just gave one a ride to the port so he could go back home where he could get some assistance.
