EXPECT and WAIT are two English words that are confusing to English learners because their meaning and use is quite similar. However there are several important differences.
Watch this English lesson by native English teacher, Andrew, to learn these important differences. :)
There is an English exercise at the end of the lesson to test your understanding. If you write your answers to the exercise in the comments section, I will check your answers make any necessary corrections.
After watching this video you should know the answers to these questions:
- What is the difference between "expect" and "wait"?
- Do "expect" and "wait" mean the same thing?
- What is the meaning of "expect"?
- How do you use "expect" in a sentence?

Hello and thanks for your answers. Here are some comments and corrections: 1. I'm expecting an electrician to come. --> correct 2. I'm waiting for the electrician. --> correct 3. I expect you to fix it today! --> correct I wait for you to fix it today! - This isn't really a correct use of "wait". For question 3, the answer I was looking for is " *It cannot* wait until tomorrow". or "The repair cannot wait until tomorrow. It is urgent." Well done, you have learned a lot from this lesson. @CrownAcademyEnglish
@CrownAcademyEnglish Жыл бұрын
Wow 7 years old. Time flies! A small correction because it is a very common mistake by French speakers: "actually" (English) does not mean "actuellement" (French) C'est un faux ami. "currently" (English) is the translation of "actuellement". So we can say: They are currently 7 years old. "actually" is an English word that means "en fait" in French.
