Heading south on a series of ferries, one that was 5 hours, and continuing on the Carretera Austral (Chile's Route 7) the team travels deeper into Patagonian Andes! They jump at the chance to hop on a boat to take in the truly remarkable marble caves (Cuevas de Mármol). #xoverland #overlander #southamerica

Choosing not to film border crossings eliminated some of the drama from this season. All in though, it’s great to see your trip. Especially with the production quality you guys have. Thank you for all the hard work and the time you spend away from your families to do this.

These days the borders have signs about not using your cell phone and if your paperwork is legit it's mostly just a whole lot of waiting in lines.

For me, 4 wheeling is fun, but exploring is what I am more passionate about. I know that some viewers want to see some of the more challenging aspects of overland travel, but for me, I can get stuck anywhere. I love these videos because they show places that most of us will never see. I have climbed up the side of the Pyramids in Egypt, sailed the Red Sea, been to Saudi Arabia, Israel, Turkey, Tunisia, Italy, Spain, France and Kenya. Most people here at home will never get to experience these places, and XO's videos show a lot of places off the unbeaten path, as well as those along the beaten path that most people often miss by just driving on by. I had no idea until this video of how beautiful this area is. Thank you, XO crew for the great videos.

Exactly. Wheeling is only one aspect of overlanding. Exploration is another. Sometimes off-road enthusiasts overlook that part.

For those of you complaining about not enough off-road stuff...As per Wikipedia, and several pretty legit overland websites, "Overlanding is self-reliant overland travel to remote destinations where the journey is the principal goal. Typically, but not exclusively, it is accomplished with mechanized off-road capable transport (from bicycles to trucks) where the principal form of lodging is camping, often lasting for extended lengths of time (months to years) and spanning international boundaries." If you want a ton of off-road stuff, there's channels for that. Overlanding doesn't mean off-roading. So cool to see you guys accomplish your dream of driving the Pan American...glad you documented the entirety of it for us to see. Highlighting cultures and people and just how alike we all are makes the world a smaller, better place. Looking forward to the next season (an African adventure would be cool...).

Thanks guys for refreshing my memories of the Austral highway. Yes the road surface has improved since we drove it in a Toyota Yaris in 2007; then it was river gravel which had the Yaris floating on the high centre of the TRACK as its ground clearance did not match the 4x4s and trucks. We will need to find other tracks to do our exploring before they disappear.

Let me clearly admit ... I did really enjoy this South America adventure as I did the previous X-overland adventures. I do see that there are some negative comments and disappointment among viewers - but I feel like asking you all: How many of us have taken (or are planning to) the same road ?, seen these beautiful places? been in such a fantastic ompany? Thank you so much X-overland guys and girls for sharing....Love 2 see U next time , Stay Safe

I have always liked your stuff and followed you from the beginning. I do like the production design you have put here for Overlanding (well aware of the difference of overlanding vs offroading). I guess my only reservations are these; your vehicles seem overloaded/over-equipped for roads (including the one in this episode) that have been driven by a Google car and have street views (yeah, all the way to the signs you stood in front of at the end of the road). The second reservation is that you ripped down far faster than typical overlanding - which means missing much of why I think people choose to overland. Otherwise, I will continue to follow this new style (much more "Long Way 'Round"). Lastly, I would LOVE to see an honest gear assessment video after the end of the South America season. I would like to see what you did not use or could have done without AND favorite real gear (maybe something not sponsored??) AND what you think you could have benefited from bringing along.

there is a border crossing from Villa O higgins to El Chalten , this way you didn't have to drive back to Paso Robalos into Argentina . Although this crossing can only be done when the river is low , it saves you tons of miles . and you get to see the most spectacular mountains ( The Fitz Roy ) . If you do cross at Paso Robalos thru Valle Chacabuco , check this out www.patagoniapark.org , and also , this www.bradshawfoundation.com/south_america/cueva_de_los_manos/index.php

Hope you review your mission statement and get back to showing what the crew, vehicles and those things that we put on our overland vehicles can do while still showing us great content, topography and cultures. With that said, your filmography and editing continue to be top notch. Cheers.

I always look forward to watching your videos and I think what you guys are doing is simply awesome. I've noticed with this new season the videos seem to focus more on the actual destinations and camp sites and not so much on the actual trails which I've come to love in the first two seasons. If my observation is correct was this by design or just the way the editing happened to work out? I'm just curious if the focus of the story telling has shifted gears...

Although I enjoy watching XO every week it’s really turned into more of a “travel” show. This entire trip could have been done in a Honda CRV. Overlanding doesn’t = 4low all the time but if you look at earlier season and video content they put the vehicles through the paces a lot more

Bill Gutman Overlanding doesn't mean you need a vehicle prepped to the top level either. But if you do and then make videos filled with "drama" of prepping the vehicles and not having enough time to prep the vehicles and talk on the radio about this danger and that danger and most of the trip you could do in a stock family crossover then think the criticism is valid and the "overlanding is x, y or zexcuse is lame. "

So did the title "road trip" get charged to "overlanding"? So far I could do this trip in my parents minivan. I've watched every season and I would say "the return to the MacKenzie" was the best season. The filming is great in all of them. I keep watching this season hoping the next episode will be better than the last and every time I'm disappointed. I'm pretty sure most people want to see MacKenzie stuff, not road trip stuff.

Michael Preston There should be plenty of other YT channels that offer what you're looking for. If you've been watching, it hasn't just been roads. They are looking for adventure with one goal in mind, to the ends of South America and thats what they're doing. Good luck taking your parents minivan 7000 miles over sand dunes, desert, salt flats, a multitude of crappy roads and sustain yourself in that van for 50+ days.

I think some people are missing the point of these series. If you want off road madness this may not be the channel for you. These guys are doing something extraordinary especially considering that they are all "ordinary" civilians with little to no training. They are making a dream come true, a dream that many people share and will never be able to do mostly because of the money factor of such an adventure. We should thank them for sharing these fantastic adventures with the world and enjoy those videos for what they are and not what we would wish them to be. Just the opinion of a random dude. XO, keep it up, keep living the dream and showing us all these fantastic places that most of us will never see.
@RShanMann
@RShanMann 6 жыл бұрын
Beautifully well done episode! Keep it up! While there was a lot of off-pavement driving, why the lack of true off-road driving for both South American seasons? I suspect it was because the overall goal was getting to the ending of the road which took priority, and to be honest this is just a different type of trip than previous seasons - Alaska, North American and McKenzie series had more off-roading and were honestly more enjoyable to watch from that aspect, but I really enjoyed the SA expeditions for a different reason, and that was seeing some incredible places and people that I otherwise wouldn’t have seen. The places and cinematography for this season was absolutely stunning - really well done, but not using those vehicles to their full capabilities has detracted from the series slightly. But, I get it; you’ve got a long trip in front of you and can’t risk damaging something so vital and crucial that far away from home. I do love how you guys are providing traveler-type tips for other overlanders and providing background and history on the places you are visiting, it makes it more meaningful. Overall, I’m impressed with the South American season and saw SA in a whole new light because of it - it really was superbly well done, but I would love to see the off-roading elements have some more focus in future series as they did in prior series. Thanks for taking us along for the ride XO crew, looking forward to more!

Come on out Jeff, come see me about June and rehab with me in the Vulture Mountains of Arizona for a couple of days. (Traumatic Brain Injury) I have been getting my health nourishment out there for about thirteen years now (good medicine); bring one of those Yoters and we will see how it and you do in the heat.
