We pre-ordered it after watching this playthrough... it works just fine for us "not-heavy-boardgamers...😊 It scratches the Scythe theme just enough without all the extras we wouldn't enjoy. It's a game for casual players like us that love those mechs 😊. Thanks for the effort to show it off!

I'm pretty excited about this one. I love the exploration parts combined with the card play and worker placement. I was hoping for a little smaller table footprint.

It sprawls a good bit with the large tiles! We fit a 3-player game on a largish table without much trouble though

It would be neat if they came out with a “mini hex tiles and miniatures pack”. That would really sell me on this game.

As much as the exploration has been a focus of the marketing and theme, the card play and combos are what really sells this one for me so far

Excellent playthrough! Great explanations and quick, snappy decisions. I pre-ordered this one primarily for solo play as I recently moved away from my game group buddies and this video gave me a good feel for how it will flow and how much I'm going to enjoy it. One question: did you use the risers on the bottom of your mech playmat? Your tucking of the cards was pretty smooth so I'm curious.

I did not! My main gaming table has some give in the surface so it wasn’t hard to slot cards in and out. With a firmer table I’d probably make use of them.

Can't wait to hear your thoughts. I've already pre ordered so I'm doomed either way. But solo looks like a lot of fun to explore with the different levels. Are there more map tiles that didn't get used for Solo? Meaning the map would vary greatly between games?

Unfortunately no, it's the same 20 tiles each game. But it kind of needs to be that way, since you need a fair mix of every icon (otherwise items might be unfairly harder to upgrade, etc.), and you need all 20 numbers represented for the quest system.

At 38:15 you said you control four meteorites... I only count three, and when you meld the Aetherstone, I thought it would no longer count as being under your "control", leaving you with only two?

At 30.08 I think you would only get 1 icon from an adjacent location. So 1 power instead of 2.

Got this on pre order. Another great video. It did feel a little rushed though, I had to keep pausing to make sure I understood what was going on. Maybe that’s just me though because I’m not familiar enough with the game and I’ve never played scythe either

That’s partially me too. I tend to move pretty quickly, and that shows up most prevalently in games like this with quick micro turns. Sorry if it was hard to keep up with!!

Well.. My thought.. I prefer Ares Expedition over the original Terraforming Mars, in this case, I prefer the original Scythe over Scythe Expedition :) GJ

This game isn’t very similar to scythe, despite the theme and art and “sequel” branding. I wouldn’t really compare the two. (Whereas TM and Ares are of course very similar. I also prefer Ares 😅)

And I prefer OG Terraforming Mars over Ares. Ares is too much like Race for the Galaxy, and I already have that. OG TM for the win 👍👍

Looks ok but man…calling the cards to the left of the mat the hand is absolutely nuts to me. I can’t compute that and I’m not sure why they could not have been called anything but that. Overall, it looks too light for my taste. Also (and maybe I didn’t get it) but it looks like your are getting completely showered with the core values. Is it supposed to be so easy to get them!?

Nothing stopping you from holding the hand cards in your hand if you want, but I agree it took me a bit to get used to it. As for the core values, I was very lucky in the combo of that early quest and my mech ability. I haven’t been that rich during the game in my other plays.

This solo mode has 5 difficulty levels plus a way to tweak each level up and down. We see it as very important to the play experience that you can get the kind of challenge that you want, so we always include difficulty levels in our games. I don't think we've ever made a solo mode with less than 3 levels but I could be misremembering.

And that's the reason we pre-ordered it 😂 we are not heavy boardgame- players so this fit the itch to play scythe on the lighter side. I think this will appeal to people like us that don't want to spend hours playing, or for those hard-core fans that need to have every Scythe expansion. 😊

pretty sure the embargo is that so all creators have an equal time on releasing the reviews. I would imagine if one had a team of reviewers and can review a game faster than one who doesn't have such a team (nor time) would get more exposure for their channel. so it's better if all reviews went out at the same time, yeah? so small creators aren't left in the dust? it's not really about confidence in the game per se.

Timing! If you se4e a review at the moment it is released, its still fresh in your mind and you might buy it from that. But if the review is 1 or 2 weeks old and you couldn't buy it at the moment, you might not remember or think about the game once it is available to buy.

@@Biodelic not my reasoning. it's what Jamey wrote as their approach to reviews "the reason is that we do not want to rush reviewers-we want them to have ample time to play the game, evaluate it, and compose their thoughts so their reviews can best serve their audience. Without a such a date, reviewers can feel pressure to race to be the first to release their review."
