I’m a clone fan, but I agree-sometimes the “original” just cannot be adequately replicated. If you can get an “original” designer or niche fragrance at a great price, get the original. However, my caveat (for me personally, everyone is different of course lol) would be only if it hasn’t been reformulated or it’s known to have good performance, otherwise, I would just get the clone. That’s really what it boils down to me, affordability and performance.

Detour Noir is something else. Its so funny i was wearing it and my grandpa was visiting and he's like " wow, that smells amazing. Reminds me of apple pie. I need it." 😂

Try using less than 2sprays of elixir. The Dior atomizer is so good and pressurized you can do 3-4 baby sprays that are probably equal to 1 full spray. I find it to be much more palatable because it’s more spread out, my family members say they get headaches from it if I were to spray it otherwise. Performance is excellent, good complement factor, and very high quality naturals. Imo it’s actually worth the price tag because it will last you forever.

I think all fragrances, clone or original has their place. I only have about 45 bottles in my collection currently and only 1 is a clone( Khamrah). Not because I don’t like clones but because when I first started my collection two years ago and learning about them, designer and “mainstream” niche fragrance like PDM and Creed fragrances were more accessible. Now that my “nose pallet” has evolved a bit I think I can safely venture into clones and be able to tell which are better quality and are great for the price. So my personal opinion is that clones should be a thing to consider when you’re able to truly tell whether it’s good or not. If someone is new to the fragcom they should start off sampling the originals until they have a good grasp of what works for them and what quality truly smells like in comparison to something cheap.

Very interesting video, exactly what I was looking for. I would agree that Naxos can hardly be copied, it is too complex and of high quality. DeTour Noir is a little artificial for me but still good, but I would instantly smell the difference. Would be interesting too for Sedley, Pegasus, Mateu 5, Le Male, and Percival.

As someone who treats this as a hobby, the clones are fun if they're cheap. I always have at least a decant to compare side by side and with separate wearings. Some of these clones aren't clones at all. For example I like Missoni Wave in high heat casual settings, Edition Blanche for special occasions, and find Versace Pour Homme boring and overpriced. 9PM is a better choice if you find UltraMale overkill on the sweetness, but I like both. I do completely agree that Asad is more wearable, but Elixir is beautiful and I'm not getting rid of it, lol. I also agree that newer Aventus has crap perfomance -- I recently sprayed on skin at Neiman Marcus and it was gone in two hours. So how long do you think it will be before GIT, Himalaya and other Creed have the same performance issues?

Had a small decant of it, but I had to give it away, because even with 3/4 of one spray, partially walking through it, I was exiled by my wife, because it was so cloying… And I couldn’t agree more with her analysis of it. The first time i smelt Naxos it reminded me of Spicebomb Extreme, but i guess its probably my beginner nose.

Just got Untold, and it smells a bit too synthetic to me. I concur, just save for BR540, it smells clean and sophisticated. Very elegant. I also have some of the other La you mentioned and also agree with your recommendations. I feel some of the other KZfaqrs get a kickback to mention all these clones as better options for the originals. As of today I’m dropping the other KZfaqrs and following you for your more honest opinion.

I think any fragrance can get a lot of hype. I rather buy the clones since it’s affordable. I don’t have the money to buy the actual fragrance. The price is out of my reach. And there’s nothing wrong with clones. that’s my thought.

I bought a bottle of Lattafa Asad last year, I’ve worn it 3 or 4 times, but for reason I just can’t get with it. Maybe it’ll take some time to grow on me, but as of now, it just sits in my closet.

I think the best clone of layton is Dusk The Woods Collection. A little bit more expensive than detoir noir, but he is just crashing it. The opening of dusk the wood collection is a little bit different, but after 10 minutes it's 100% smells like layton

The genius of BR540 is that it's so few lines, or at least, used to be. They've added a few materials in the newer batches now, but it used to be just 17 lines. That's a masterpiece, just because of that fact alone. It absolutely amazes me, that the first 4 materials make up over 90% of the entire fragrance, and also SMELL a lot like BR540 already. Usually, you won't get a hint of what fragrance it is, just by making up the "base" with the usual workhorse materials. But just the blend of Hedione, Ambrox, Evernyl and Ethyl Maltol smells so much like BR540, it's insane. Kinda feels like a happy Jean Carles Method accident. Now I think in the older batches, there was a considerable amount of Cedramber too, but apart from that, it's just (almost) trace amounts of materials, that just give it a little finish (except for the Jasmine which does shine through a lot).

I like this. I think clones get too much love and the trade off sometimes isn’t really worth it. $40-70 for some clones when most of the originals can be had for $120-$180 pm discounters. I don’t mind saving and having a smaller collection of bangers. Clones can be a slippery slope when they can be had for cheap you just amass a huge clone collection that you can’t possibly wear. Give me ten niche or high end designers and that’s all I need. Quantity isn’t always quantity. Just my thought, a lot of clones don’t work well on my skin.
