I got my foxface at roughly an inch and a half, it's been the perfect tankmate. Its the biggest fish in the tank now. It just cruises around the tank with the tang grazing in the bare bottom and the rocks. Great addition!

Very nice! However, I really like your yellow tang! Healthy and very pretty!

Thank you! I’ll make a video on him eventually, too. Captive-bred. Exceedingly active and healthy fish, for sure!

I have to fox face in separate tanks, and enjoy them both. They are peaceful until they’re not! They also love to eat for sure. I feed twice a pellets, and once daily seaweed. The sea weed is mostly for my tangs, but the fox face loves it as well. They still graze on what algae is on the rocks in between feedings. My pair are skiddish also. When they hide, everything hides! But when it’s feeding time i always watch where they are for sure. I think that’s one of the reasons i went to using auto feeders. Whenever i opened the screen to feeding door, they are always first to great my hand and i figured sooner or later i was going to get poked, so auto feeding from now on, plus I can schedule how many times a day i can feed them which helps out during the week when I’m at work.

Auto feeders are a big help with a Foxface. I love how your story mirrors my own. Basically: “Yeah my Foxface eats everything and is only bold and brave about food.” 😂 Yup, sounds about right. They’re the biggest pigs in the hobby, and I feel like that’s never associated with their kind…but it seems universally true of them!!!

Mine quickly became the largest in the 75G and caused 70% of the tank to hide. When it started picking and moved it on, it was a massive relief and change to my tank- cool fish but I'm reserving Rabbitfish for FOWLR from here on in..

You hit right on why I say these should never be considered “good beginner fish”. They’re weird. I believe I’m very lucky that mine only targets one type of coral with any enthusiasm, and is a peacekeeper in the tank. Mine also hasn’t grown in months, so I believe I lucked out with a smaller specimen. Thank god - on all fronts 🤣

I feed all my tanks often daily. I don’t think it’s over feeding but I feed often throughout the day. It’s more like a snack for my fishes 5+ times instead of one large meal once a day. I’ve notice it keeps the aggression down and they still graze and eat off the rocks .

100% my approach. Fairly small, numerous feedings is the way to go. Mine don’t destroy every trace of algae in the tank, but they keep it knocked back. And nobody goes to war with each other, because they always have something in their bellies.

Your analogy about Alfa is complete opposite in my experience with foxface ( one spot one)

@@estonianreefer2851 Interesting! Yeah, I was surprised to see mine act this way.

“She is an absolute pig” As the Foxface is camping under the auto fish feeder waiting for food 🤣 I wish my foxface would eat bubble algae more readily but I guess it just depends on the individual
@kalamazoo_reefer5 ай бұрын
Totally depends on the individual fish as far as algae goes. But yeah man. She’s insane about food. She boxes out the “drop zone” for food like 30 minutes in advance of a feeding. Her dedication is sort of impressive 😂

Coral beauty next? 🙏

I’m going with whatever fish is being sociable that day. The Foxface was braver than usual today, and was coming out despite being nervous about the camera, so I took advantage! Coral Beauty is definitely on the docket though, don’t worry.

My one spot isn’t shy at all,will even eat algae out of my hand.
@kalamazoo_reefer3 ай бұрын
Really. You’re way lucky. Every one I’ve encountered, even in fish stores, has been crazy skittish.

To be honest I’ve had 3 over the years,and this one is the only one that hasn’t been shy are afraid of everything.

This is getting weird. Next fish to go in the tank, a tomini and a one spot foxface. Do you have my place bugged? Who the eff are you and how are you doing this?
@kalamazoo_reefer5 ай бұрын
I think you and I operate on more or less the same exact wavelength, so it’s unsurprising that I am telepathically anticipating your moves. By the way, I filmed half a video on my Tomini before it started hiding too much, so I deleted it and went for the Foxface video instead. lol. Beyond weird.
@gomisreef5 ай бұрын
Though I think your experience on algae and coral eating I think will pivot me toward a small captive bred yellow tang instead. So it was helpful, as well as weird

@@gomisreef Unless you have a preference on fish shop, roll with Dr. Reef’s Quarantined Fish. They keep their Biota tangs in their tanks for longer, to allow them to strengthen up. Apparently they arrive too weak to be turned around and shipped again. Also, they quarantine them, which is pretty great. I have never received a sick fish from them, and 90% of my fish came from their facility. Really good operation that is actually responsible and not afraid to tell a customer “your fish just isn’t ready yet, we need to get it stronger first”. Shows a lot of maturity from their business. Need more like that on the fish side of the hobby.

Acans. Only thing she can’t stop herself from chomping.
