Expert Witness DESTROYED on Cross Exam in Edgecomb Trial

Theodore Edgecomb's attorney, B'Ivory Lamarr called Ricky Burems to the stand. Ricky would testify to the shoddiness of the police investigation conducted in the wake of the murder of Jason Cleereman. What happened on cross exam was a complete shredding of his expert testimony and a destruction of his credibility.

Fortunately or unfortunately if you ask guys like Branca or Massad Ayoob most defense experts are looked upon like prostitutes anyways. If an expert is paid as they often are all their credentials and expertise is viewed as bought and paid for by the jury if a prosecutor does a decent job. Unfortunately it's because most defense experts (especially ex-police use of force experts) are literally only in it for the paycheck. They'll testify that a gangbanger they put away for 10 years was acting in self defense when they carjack a single mother with her baby in the back seat. That's why good experts like Massad Ayoob and the one in the Kim Potter trial are worth their weight in gold.

This is what happens when you get an activist lawyer. Lamarr was focused on building his resume on some miscarriage of justice BS and not bothering to lay out a decent defense for his client (not that Edgecomb had one) that he mucked up the entire case, gets excoriated multiple times by the judge, loses his paralegal, and inevitably handwalks his client into a guilty verdict. Lamarr gets to now use this as his confirmation of "systemic racism" while his client rots in jail. Good work.

Normally people just look defeated and ashamed, but I've seen this specific reaction a lot in people who have overblown egos, people who hate admitting they were wrong. I don't know whether there is any correlation between those two, but that's just my personal observation. Had friends who acted exactly like this who hated when they were proven wrong, my mother acted exactly like this when she did something stupid and refused to admit she was wrong, I've seen people like that all over the internet. I'm impressed...this prosecutor managed to avoid ending every question with "...you dumbass." He could have, and been 100% accurate. IDK, scratch that...witness probably isn't really a total dumbass, he's just an activist masquerading as an investigator, and probably believes he was wronged here..."...may I expound?" LOL, thanks Nick!

This judge was smart to have cameras in the courtroom. When the activists inevitably cry racism after the defense gets blown out of the water, there'll be plenty of evidence of how it all went down.
@SquallLionhart409
@SquallLionhart409 2 жыл бұрын
Nobody is going to watch all of the footage to see if there's actually any racism. It just gets cut down to 20-30 second clips out of context (or even 5-10 second clips) to be shared around and shown on the news to further a narrative. Remember, Judge Schroeder was instantly a Trumper because his ringtone was God Bless the USA.

Nick Rekieta, I just wanna say that I had NEVER watched a trial before I watched your rittenhouse content. First now I understand a LOT better how justice works, how costly it is, how destructive it can be, and how broken it can be. I would have never watched a single SECOND of Law & Crime if weren't for your transformative content. YOUR COMENTARY, AND YOUR WORK makes this type of content palatable to me. I want to thank you for making this very interesting content. You make these dry trials easy to understand, make a sense of community around the case and overall make it entertaining on top of interesting. Your content is extremely important in normalizing people checking how the system actually works.

I second this! I'm not in law nor will I ever be, but I found your commentary on top of the live case feeds to be extremely educational and informative. Kind of raises an interesting conflict regarding expert witnesses. There is no screening real process for quality or integrity aside from their resume, but there is a lot of money to be made. Even bad testimony pads your resume. The judge said the investigator testified in hundreds of cases, if I heard that right. I wouldn't trust that guy to get my sandwich order right.

This prosecutor is even self-correcting. He didn't need a warning or stink eye from the judge, he simply realized that he'd asked the witness to speculate as to someone else's motives, and stated that he would rephrase for that reason. This is a competent prosecutor who cares about his duty to the Court, I think.

It's truly encouraging to watch a judge of this calibre keep these defence activists in line. I hope he is representative of the majority of judges in the US. If this case was anything to go by, they seemingly have become accustomed to "He's non-reflective, he'll get off". I can't think of another reason those lawyers would come in so patently ill-prepared and with such absolutely absurd "arguments".

Listening to that reminds me of the failure of an 'expert witness' for me. I had a motorbike accident and got my mechanic to look over my bike to get an estimate of damage repair for the insurers. My bike was accessible from the street so he checked it over without me being aware that he was doing it (not a great start). I looked at the report he handed me, and took him to task pretty quickly. The handlebar had been bent into the fuel tank, leaving a huge and obvious dent, but the massive and obvious damage was not on the report. I asked you to report on the damage, but you missed off a very obvious thing. You report is now completely useless as I can't trust anything you say in it. You missed the obvious! If I'd been on that jury, it would be the same thing. You missed something so obvious, that now everything you have said is null and void, untrustworthy. What are you even being paid for?
