What Is DEF & What is it's Purpose?
Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) is a non-hazardous solution, which is 32.5% urea and 67.5% de-ionized water. DEF is sprayed into the exhaust stream of diesel vehicles to break down dangerous NOx emissions into harmless nitrogen and water. ... DEF is not a fuel additive and never comes into contact with diesel.

Volvo engine check light. what i just learn about DEF expiration date/ Engine will starts, idles/ once your doing highway speed and you're on the throttle over a long period like about 45 minute at 65 mph you will lose the throttle response This has happened frequently. when it happened i have to remove my feet from the throttle completely, and engine will response again, the Last time it happened i was going to NF Canada 1 weed drive that's when the engine check light came on, Check Engine ECU has been on for code and spn 2029 fmi 9 . was on the dashboard. This time as well as last time, additional Check Light Control Module is on. Looks like this is the active fault preventing the throttle response. It was dark where I am at the time, its the weekend and no/none Volvo shop was nearby, I search online they say to check wiring harness I did it didn't help. ECU data link is on but it has been on for several counts, Light Control Module was on.. but after I did this video and another one the when I realized it's my Keep truckin E-Log All This Time. So if your having this problem just disconnect your E-log then tested it again. thanks👊👍👍 for watching.

Good video bredda, i got a 2015 freightliner cascadia and i have to be checking the components because as a used truck most of the parts are older now and need replacing causing the lights on the dashboard. And those Landstar trailers, when you get a good one, just try keep it. Keep trucking bro. Bless

Bless up mi general...1 your DEf fluid may have been contaminated the next thing you need to do is check your decomposition tube where the dosing injector is and check for Crystal build up around the edges and 2 whenever you see green on wires you need to change the entire wire harness the green corrosion can go inside the wires from the pin connector......

In the winter def has a freezing point of -11C after that when you do a PM on your truck let's say in the summer you you have to drain it out and put one thats not expired. Always try and check the date of the jug. Try and avoid Ambassador Bridge Amex Duty free diesel fuel and def, ask people that are aware of it they will tell you to try and avoid but if you have no choice just make sure to flush your fuel system and change the def filter and sensor.

I would have to disagree with you on the DEF debate, you should be filling DEF at truck stops, they go through huge volumes, plus it’s way cheaper, and keep it full so it does not have a chance to crystallize never ever had major problems on my 2015 Volvo 780 with DEF and DPF system, only regular maintenance and the odd sensor, make sure you change the DEF filter every year just before winter, keep up the good work!

Nice 👍👍 2015 volvo VNL780 👍. They always put new Def on the old 1 and if your truck is too sensitive the light will come on. What's a odd sensor?? I think I need to change my DEF filter too..

TroyStarz TRUCKING VLOGS I mean once in a while a nox sensor or pressure sensor, no big deal, keep it full if you get bad batch of def it will mix with the good def fluid and you will be okay, I have a great relationship with a Volvo shop in London ontario and the manager gives me all the tech support I need, I do 95% of my own preventative maintenance and constantly educate myself on the D13, I’m getting 8.2mpg, you should budget about a 1k per year on ATS (After treatment system) for maintenance, don’t clean your DPF filter until your MPG starts dropping, I cleaned my DPF filter for the first time at 600,000km and it could have gone another 200,000km before it needed to be clean !

@@terryj-londonontariocanada4605 hey I need your help I had my def at half a tank and it’s cold and I just filled it up at truck stop and all the code 5246/0 popped up. I think it crystallized and it derate to 5 as soon as I put new def in it

Since you are based out of ontario but you are plated in the states, do you still need to get a favor and get your inspection stickers for ontario or do you get us inspection stickers?

No I get it in done on ontario because my truck was and registered in canada. The reason for plating in IL its because Landstar head office is from the states.

That's what happened when your trying to find a problem without going to the dealer but the real problem was this… kzfaq.info/get/bejne/i6icaptombGpaI0.html I was going to take down this video but there some good ideas in there that's why but the light cord was a different problem on my it's self.. Thanks for Watching👍 I hope didn't misleads anyone but there are times when the def got bad and was taking out by the dealer I they charge me for it so it's still a thing to keep in mind 👍👍

When that message come “Poor def detected engine will derrate 5 mph in 180 minutes “ try this : pour a liter or half a gallon of ammonia that will makes the def molecules stronger and will take that derrate message off since the def is based on ammonia it just will concentrate the liquid but if it doesn’t then it means that you have Be prepare cuz those repairs aren’t cheap the most common issues with this is that the hydrocarbon aftertreatment air valve purge get stuck open or closed due to the dirt coming from the air dryer that’s why is very important to change the air dryer filter more often so normally also you have to replace the air pressure doser valve , the pressure regulator and also the little def filter that goes in the around the def tank you are talking about a repair cost of about $1,500 to $2,000 depending the shop you brought it to good look..

it's injected into the exhaust pipe just before the catalytic converter and turns the NOx gases into water for enviromental reasons.

@@oscarcontreras940 it doesn't make your vehicle engine burn cleaner as it is sprayed just before the catalytic converter which is after the engine burn process but what it does is converts the NOx gasses to water.
