Great idea to have that multipurpose centerpiece. Also, realised how clean the feel is without the typical hanging cabinets in the kitchen.

$45,000 on a 3-room isn't really cheap. The extensive hacking and custom made items are probably contributing factors. Love the colour scheme and the smart kitchen area.

My taste lands between minimalist and maximalist… but I can appreciate the space the owner has created. Good job. If I may comment on wall sockets in the kitchen area. I feel the best “height” for wall socket positioning on the backsplash would be no higher than a small kettle (probably the shortest appliance one has on the counter almost all the time). In this way … unsightly wall sockets esp cables of the appliances that are most likely plugged in all the time ….will be out of view. Having gone through a reno last year myself … I didn’t pay attention to that detail. Now I have cables dangling everywhere. I’ve since gotten some plants and a lamp to “block” the cables. Unless it’s regulation that wall sockets must be above a certain height on the backsplash … I am somewhat shocked that my ID missed out this detail. IMHO…no matter how nice a space is … power cables dangling everywhere totally cheapens the overall look. On the lighter side … it’s like having a super long nose hair sticking out off one’s nostril. Unsightly at the very least.

I’m in the process of planning my Reno too, can I know exactly how did Ching Kai do the diy painting of the storage doors?
@chingkai
@chingkai 2 жыл бұрын
Heys, firstly I custom-made the doors to be MDF boards instead of the default plywood, just for a smoother surface to begin with. The rest of the painting follows a typical acrylic painting process lor... just like how one would paint on a canvas. except the canvas in this case is the row of cabinet doors, and the image is a faux cement texture :)

@@chingkai Hi CK, just would like to ask, if you have any regrets or feedback after removing all the walls in the unit? I am considering to do the same, but instead keeping a half wall for the masterbedroom, so the bed will not be visible from the main space. also the half-wall could serve as a bed-head. I am a minimalist as well, and I do have reservations about a bed. for a furniture that is only used 1/3 of the day, it occupies a physical space 24/7, so i am looking into visually hiding, or even exploring stowaway options. lastly, for the 45k cost, did it largely go towall hacking? what were the other big ticket reno that contributed to the overall cost? Thank you!

- minimalist concept in design is commonly misunderstood in Sg. unfortunately, this is no exception. - the reverse switches are a safety hazard, takes just an accidental spillage to cause a fire. - it is not concrete flooring. the term is often misused. please engage a qualified, experienced interior designer in your editing team.
