Thank you Valeria and Alex for showing one of the shopping malls. It looks very much like the ones we used to have in the states. Russian shopping malls have more to offer kids and more and better food choices. US malls are in a very bad state of decline now days. There are hardly any left. Your malls are bigger on average and offer better shops. We don't have shops such as Samsung, etc. The biggest mall in the states is "The Mall of America", but it too is starting to struggle. Yes, mall prices in the states have always been very high and not many people can really afford to shop in them. That and the internet are the two reasons our malls are almost gone.

A shopping mall in Russia is not a place for just shopping but mostly the place to spend some time on a family day out. To shop, to go to see some movie, to eat in a food court etc. Some malls even have things like bowling or skating-rink. In Russia people are not so obsessed with their work as in many Western countries so they go out a lot.

An interesting trend in Russia that goes against trends in the West is the huge shopping malls being built. In the West, the US particularly, the shopping mall and shopping center is dying. E-commerce is blamed for it. But Russia has a strong internet culture, so maybe there are other reasons not being talked about because e-commerce isn't hurting things in Russia.

Even in the UAE there are similar supermarkets. And what does this mean? Because of this, the Arabs lost their identity. Of course, they love to enjoy the some benefits of Western civilization and when Western experts work for their benefit, but mentally this does not make them look like Europeans or Americans. And the Russians are Others too. Stop thinking that a consumer society will make all nations the same, like rams in a flock.

In small shops near the house it is good to buy fresh food or those that suddenly ended on weekdays after work. When there is no time to waste it on walks through big shops.

I have a question, are all the movies "dubbed" to Russian language and is it possible to view them with original language but with Russian subtitles. Over here where I am at most "kids" movies are dubbed but you can watch them with original language with subtitles as they have multiple showings in the cinema. Foreign films are not dubbed but do have the subtitles, you can not watch them dubbed in the cinema even if you wanted to for that you have to buy a DVD, BluRay etc that have the dubbed languages.

Agree with you. Globalism has brought good things in some aspects. However, countries started loosing their national/local identity offering same products/brands/entertainments all over the world. A small Russian company with national goods cannot afford a rent in a huge mall. Too expensive. What Moscow authorities (not only they) do - they offer some space around the city, even in the center (as a tourist place) for small pavilions where local traders can sell their goods. Or a souvenir market like Izmailovo in Moscow - you can find it on the youtube.

@@carmineiadeluca935 1. Russian gun laws are very strict, so there are very few firearms in a civilians hands. Which makes them quite hard/expensive to get for criminals. Hence, carjacking and mugging at gunpoint are extremely rare. 2. Police holds a tight grip on ethnic gang crimes (mostly because those are a fertile soil for terrorism). Hence, ethnic gang violence rate is also low. Yet, it does exists. 3. Russian people would often fight back the muggers and also would often help others to do that. So the muggers rarely would attack at a places, like shopping mall park lots, where people may get help. Those are also well guarded by mall security. Car thefts are a problem, but mostly for an expensive cars. Car burglary is more common. As well, as pick-pocketing. Also, I don't have statistics, but from my impression, a predetermined violent crimes rate is rather low. In my opinion, it is more probable to get into a drunken brawl, or road-rage fist-fight, then get mugged.

@@terencebarrett2897 Terence, I think you are going farther than I meant. I think it is sad seeing Russia being Americanised. I don't think America has anything much to add to Europe. However, I am a European. I think you may be in favour of Brexit. I am not. I think that, for Ireland, specifically, the arrival of Europeans from other nations is of great benefit to this country.
