Keith York is no stranger to significant architectural homes in San Diego; not only has he represented the Sale and Purchase of substantial dwellings, but he also owned his fair share of Postmodernist homes in San Diego County. From owning the only Craig Ellwood home in San Diego dubbed the Bobertz Residence in 2000, which he lovingly restored, to now being the 2nd owner of the Richards Residence, Architect Sim Bruce Richards personal Residence overlooking the San Diego Harbor. Sim Bruce Richards apprenticed with Frank Lloyd Wright in the 1930s in AZ, then moved out West, where he started his career, which spanned nearly four decades with over 200 projects.
Keith is a breath of fresh air and highly knowledgeable about the landscape and Architecture that San Diego has to offer. Starting the website SanDiegoModern.com in 2010, it has become an encyclopedia for anyone looking for information on Architecturally Significant Homes in San Diego and the Architects behind them. Keith and his family's appreciation for Architecture and preservation mindset are remarkable. The location and site for the Richards residence is one where a developer would quickly tear down this 'old' home to make way for a new modern home to bask in all the views the site offers. It takes a special family to truly appreciate architecture for how it was built and designed to preserve, maintain, and willingly share to educate others. From the period-correct Furniture to the Art on the walls and Ceramics throughout, you'll instantly understand how everything seamlessly flows together perfectly in this home.

Both homes Keith has lived in really required a heavy dose of TLC on his part. There's been some real sweat equity behind the scenes in this lovely video. There's also been some very focused San Diego craftsman that have brought this back, since Keith moved in back in 2017.

I really appreciate how personally impacted Keith is by his home. He offered some beautiful statements about the nature of great architecture. I feel similarly and try to chose the place I call home carefully and wisely.

All the homes in this series are fantastic, but there's something about this home that makes me connect with it more than the others. It could be all the wood inside and the sense of warmth it makes me feel, the integration with the landscape, my affinity for San Diego, Keith's story, or perhaps a combination of these elements. Kudos for producing another great video! I look forward to each one.

I live in the SD area, and whenever I drive between Pacific Beach and the hills of La Jolla, I meander through a neighborhood with a large collection of midcentury-modern homes... wondering who the architect is, and the story behind the tract. Love everything about this home; the design, interior choices, and exterior context in which it's situated.

That tract is called Pacifica - designed by William Krisel, notable architect who did tracts in San Diego, Palm Springs and LA.

Big Island is like a cali. suburb and I've seen the mid century moderne cabin all over Kona side. I lived in a 1973 version from 02 forward. Lots of experimentation went on over there.

Large roof overhangs of 2 or 3 feet or more add beauty and protection for doors, windows and siding. Rain water and excessive moisture can be damaging to buildings. Architects and builders need to adopt large large roof overhangs on their projects.
