Dr. Ed Prochownik, former director of Oncology Research at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, discusses his research on cancer stem cells published in the June 2010 issue of the journal Stem Cells. Dr. Prochownik's team discovered an unprecedented method of permanently blocking cancer stem cells so they remain stem cells instead of differentiating into other types of tumor-forming cells.
