The area is famous for a large number of Bengali-owned curry restaurants in the Brick Lane. The proximity of the street to the City of London means that during the day office workers can easily walk to Brick Lane for a cheap and tasty lunchtime or after-work curry. The street is also known for its vibrant street art, vintage boutiques and bagel shops. Beneath the English signs along the thoroughfare, plaques bear the Bengali names for each street, while the lampposts are painted in green and red, the colours of the Bangladesh flag.
