Explore Sri Lanka’s Cave of Golden Buddhas

6 жыл бұрынThe town of Dambulla in Sri Lanka is home to the largest cave complex in the country. With a labyrinth containing over 80 documented caves, five in particular stand out from the rest. Unlike the others, these five have been converted into sprawling temples where visitors can view golden statues, depictions of Buddha and over 1,500 different paintings. The temple caves have been around for 22 centuries; thanks to conservation efforts, they will be around for many more to come.

Only the US use “feet” “inches,” etc. It baffles me that I have to go to google to make the conversion to metric because I don’t know how “100 feet tall” looks like. Please add conversion for the rest of people that follow you that do not live in the US

I'm not quite sold on the 1/2 acre thing. If an acre is 208' x 208', and there are statues around 100' long...... I think someone goofed a little. Well done on the film, interesting as always. Just wish these were a few minutes longer.

is the 1:00 statue made of gold? Cause I was thinking, gold doesn't rust (well, not to a level the naked eye can see) and like all metals is elastic enough to not break apart with an earthquake. Therefore, that statue might aswell be what is found of humanity one million years after we are extinct.

Mahis world your right. I watched it again. I just didnt realize they were inside the caves when showing the temples. Cause i didn't see any rock. Every wall and ceiling/floor is covered with sculptures.
