Hiking in London Club in Woodberry Wetlands Walk !
I recently had the pleasure of embarking on the Woodberry Wetlands walk, which starts at Finsbury Park Station and ends at either Stoke Newington Overground or Manor House Underground, covering a total of 4.3 miles. As someone who enjoys hiking and nature walks, I have to say that this was one of the most enjoyable routes I've ever taken.
The Woodberry Wetlands walk is of moderate difficulty, making it suitable for most hikers, although it does involve some uphill walking. I would recommend this walk to anyone who is looking for a beautiful and relaxing outdoor activity. However, if you have any mobility issues, it may not be the best choice as there are some sections with uneven terrain.
To get to the starting point, you can take the Victoria or Piccadilly line to Finsbury Park Station. Alternatively, you can take the Overground to Stoke Newington and start the walk from the other end. The Woodberry Wetlands are located between the two stations, making it easily accessible by public transport.
As for clothing recommendations, I would suggest wearing comfortable shoes with good grip, as the terrain can be slippery in wet weather. Layered clothing is also recommended as the weather can be unpredictable, especially in the cooler months.
The Woodberry Wetlands are steeped in history. The site was originally a series of reservoirs that were built in the mid-19th century to supply drinking water to London. It was transformed into a nature reserve in 2016, which has provided a sanctuary for a range of wildlife.
One of the most interesting aspects of the Woodberry Wetlands is that it is home to a number of rare bird species, including the rare bittern. In fact, the site is one of the few places in the UK where the bittern can be heard and seen. This makes it an ideal spot for birdwatchers.
At the end of the walk, you can reward yourself with a visit to one of the many restaurants in the area. The local cuisine is varied, with options ranging from traditional pub food to international cuisine.
In conclusion, the Woodberry Wetlands walk is a must-see for anyone who loves hiking and nature walks. With its beautiful scenery, interesting history and rare wildlife, it truly is a hidden gem in the heart of London. So, put on your hiking boots, grab your camera and get ready to explore the beauty of the Woodberry Wetlands.
